Spinning in the opposite direction like you said would be a no.

thats what i ALWAYS thought but was reading somewhere lately that there is a type of lsd that spins different ways and need torque to spin the same way if you get what i mean.. by hand wont have enough force to "engage" the lsd

im pretty sure, may not be right, that a trd helical lsd will spin the wheels in opposite directions when out of gear, off the ground

Hey when i was changing the shocks on my car the other day i noticed that the wheel was very hard to spin when the other wheel was on the ground ! so does this mean i have LSD ?

Only got my car sunday, Bazza has said he reckons it may have an LSD i spoke to daz who i got it off he said he'd never checked but there's a sticker on the driver door saying it has. Really confused about it at the moment this being my first glanza i know quite alot about them but don't know what to look for when looking to see wether i have LSD I know it handles well. Im thinking of doing a wheel spin an going from there, is this the best thing to do? Haha. If i do have an LSD what advantages does it give me?

To be fair iv not saw the sticker thats just what daz mentioned when i asked him but i'll have a look when i go out. I know it handles well. Bazza wouldnt say he thought id got an LSD if it felt the same as his obviously a different car but its the difference in handling etc. Both cars are on coilovers to, more or less been lowerd to the same height. Will have a mooch an do a wheel spin in a bit. Go from there :haha:
Thanks Aimee x

the problem is if the car came with a lsd and gbox changed at a later stage.. or it has an after market lsd

True just one more possibility to rule out, but and easiest way i found was just to jack the whole front up and spin the wheels

Rotate the same direction= LSD
Alternate directions=Non LSD

All Starlets have one longer shaft than the other.

If you have the OEM Toyota LSD then the driveshafts are almost as short as each other, one side is still a abit longer though. You don't have OEM LSD that's for sure, otherwise you would see a part sticking out on the end of the driveshaft that is on the right side of your picture. You could have an aftermarket LSD in the box though.

On another note mine doesn't have LSD right now, and when jacked up the wheels spin in the opposite direction. 1996 Glanza V.
