how much for a bottom end rebuild?

hi can anyone give me a rough idea what it will cost to have my bottom end rebuilt? as it has just started to knock, im going to take the engine out myself etc... and then take it to an engine specialist to do the work.

depends how far you want to go mate ie standard rebuild or forged

things you will need doing

crank regrind
crank bearings
bores honed (assuming they dont require rebore)
new piston rings
toyota gasket set (around £110)
head bolts
oil pump
water pump
cambelt

(if you get the bits from a trader on here it will be alot cheaper than getting your engine builder to get them)

Im in a similer sito, just to add how easy is it to resource parts for the engine block, from local stores?

I am rebuilding mine at the moment Price so far

Crank, balanced & ground with o/s bearings bigs, mains & thrust washers came to £225
I got the block & head slightly skimmed £47 each
Headbolts £15 (motor factors)
Cambelt kit was £40 (motor factors)
Water pump £20 (motor factors)
Oil pump just under £70 (toyota)
Running in Oil £20
Speedvision gasket set around £60


I also bought used wiseco pistons 74.5mm with scat rods and all new o/s rings for £330 the cylinder boring and horning is costing me £27 per cylinder plus vat. picking it up next week

Zep headgasket

some times it's easy to buy an engine but you dont no what your buying 9 out of 10 times at least if you do it yourself you no it will be ok (hopefully). i havent included the tools which you will need if you havent got them (i.e piston ring comp. measuring equipment etc.) as well as the odd bits and bobs you replace which isnt in the gasket kit, It seems like a lot of money now that iv listed it all but its all worth it, there is probably a few bits iv missed but i think thats all the expensive stuff.

fark me, £1064.03 is close to $3000nzd which would buy you a whole gt over here, or about 3 or 4 engines
