how to find out wat handbrake cable?

does anyone know wat i need to find out wat handbrake cable to buy as there are loads of different types on fleebay but wat do i need?

do i need the chassis code etc?

The year of the vehicle is important.All the cables are the same length but the ends are differant up by the handbrake itself.94 and up the ends are bigger.Hope that helps.
