hybrid turbos...

righto,

I know theres been 1 million threads about these units, Im thinking about getting one. However Im a bit weary as to why so many are going up for sale with only '2000 miles covered'. Every single one has only covered 2000 miles apparently then there getting sold.

Question: Why???

And are they actually any good? I only want 200hp ish, so not going tdo4 or anything. Few people Ive spoke to reckon there not much cop.

Any info is appreciated, cheers

they change the power characteristics and you loose the lump of power low down you get with the stock ct9 but get more pull up the top. its tends to smooth the power out across the range.

tbh, they dont make your car feel any quicker under most circumstances, they can have the effect of making it feel a bit slower to be perfectly honest.

i think the tongs turbo i have works well for what i use it for, a TD04 would give me more power but then i would have more lag so its a trade off at the end of the day.

the difference between a hybrid ct9 and stock ct9 is pretty small so alot of people probably fit one and then realise it doesnt give them what they want so sell it on.

i loved my hybrid (tongs) thought it was ace you do loose a little power lower down but makes up for it as it doesnt run out of puff higher up the rev range. i would say it pulls better then a standard ct9.... all depends on the set up and what other mods you got to go with it i would say

well tbh, there mostly tongs that are up for sale but I was talking generally about hybrid units for the starlet.

I think you were right there pal, theyve fitted them and realised its not worth it so selling on? Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I dont want to loose the punch you get from standard ct9, but I want more power. Not silly amounts of power, as I said about 200ish, saying that Im not far off that anways on standard ct9. Just being greedy lol

I doubt Id be running it at over a bar anyways, so you think theres much to gain from a hybrid at 1 bar?

Decisions, decisions lol.

you will loose the low down punch whatever you fit mate. if your only running it at 1 bar then i would say stick with the stock ct9. you will probably get higher figures with a hybrid but thats pretty much it.
if you drive on track a hybrid may be advantageous as you tend to drive higher up in the rev range anyway so you would probably gain then.

im happy with my hybrid, dont get me wrong. but for most people the minimal gains you get arent worth the money

Its not that, some people want more power.

I said i was happy with ct9 power and ill stick to it. got used to it and moved to tongs hybrid. Now i want to sell up and want more power.

If you have a limit a hybrid would suit you. around 200-220 max with ecu!

im running 210 with hybrid jam ecu :)

im selling mine due to the fact that i wanted an rx7 for my daily driver so i had time to take the starlet off the road to build my 5e lump nothing to do with the fact the turbo isnt any good.... there great turbos i loved mine but wanted/needed a bigger turbo for the 5e

.

if your just talking about the trubo and just raising the boost then no point, but if you have the supportig modz, ie. ecu, fuel pump, fuel regulator, ht leads, spark plugs, more air flowing intercooler (fmic) and remove all restrictions (downpipe, manifold), then you wont be dissapointed :)

i've ran a tongs hybrid and probably the best hybrid you can purchase, also there are new hybrids from the same seller on uksc, these are called ultimate hybrid and are made to rival the td04 :haha:

have a read over on the site bro,

for those who say hybrids dissapoint you and then you sell on, have you ran the turbo with the correct modz? you cant get results without the supporting modz :)

i have 2 mk1 GTs.

one has a stock ct9 and only mods i have are jam ecu and actuator, k&n panel filter and cat back hks exhaust.

the other has tongs hybrid, power fc, manifold, decat, full exhaust, hks actuator, fmic, front mount filter, uprated fuel pump, boost controller etc etc

at 1 bar between the 2 there isnt alot of difference between them. the tongs just pulls more up the top and is a smoother power delivery.

ive got the mods mate, fmic, wepr mani/decat, full exhaust, hks fcon/gcc, walbro pump, hks actuator, good plugs/leads, lightened flywheel, exedy clutch...

car feels good mate, pulls really well, just I want a bit more pull and tbh, not sure whether to throw more money on this car or just buy another car lol

cant help thinking these hybrid units are a bit of a waste of money, getting only a smaller percentage extra hp out of like 400-500 quid

but a TD04 kit costs 1k+ and without forging the engine you wont get alot more than a hybrid at 1.2 bar

just depends what you want from the car!

exactly mate and Im not willing to spend like over 3 grand to get what, 250hp? When I could sell car, put that foward for an evo or seomthing.

My main reason starting this thread wasnt to ask about how to get more power, I know how to do that. Its just after reading on these turbo units etc It makes me wonder if there any good. As so many are up for sale with hardly any usage. And peoples opinions are quite different on them. Think I'll just have a proper tune and hope for the best. Dont want to be pushing boundaries here, just wanted more bang for my buck. And quick lol.
