Hi, just want you all to throw some idea's up in the air :) when i get back from holiday in July im going to start buying and building a track car!! what would you reccomend?

At the minute i have these ideas

Peugeot 205 with mi-16 conversion
Civic/Crx Vtec with D20 conversion
Mk 2 Fiesta with 2.0L Zetec Conversion
Peugeot 106 with modified GTI engine

im not sure if i want to go turbo because ive spoke to a mate who does track racing and he said 90% of the cars that blow up/break down are turbo charged cars.

I was also thinking of an oldskool beamer but what could i do with this? not messing arround with expensive m3 engines :p

also is there anything that will easily drop into an EP80 thats fast and not turbocharged?

or shall i go turbo? hmmm decisions :p

id go with the pug & a mi-16 or if u can get ur hands on one a mi-19 :D

the 205 handles pretty well as stock as well, so with a rollcage & some other tie bars ull pretty much be sorted... (dont forget hi heat breaks though :p)

a corsa 2ltrxe stripped out, coilovers, 15,s, and a lsd good track car my mate had one with throttle bodies it was quick but the handling was somethink else.

the Peugeot or Vauxhall are your best bet. Easy to get hold off, and parts are easy to scource

The Honda B20 conversion costs enough to do, great though. Harder to get parts for.

205 Gti with a well prepped 1.9 XU motor, the MI-16 suffers real bad from oil starvation.

have to agree with the turbo comment. very hard to stop them overheating even mildly modified. we were discussing this at the weekend. na engine in a small car seems to be the way. stripped out standard crx sir would be pretty good. or why not a toyota 190 vvti engine in a starlet.

the 190 vvti would take a bit of fitting wouldnt it?

i would lover a KP61 but its gettin hold of 1!! if i can get one for the right price tho ill be very tempted :D

i am thinking i would like RWD now tho as ive never driven 1 and would like the experience, but we'll see keeping my options open :) As for the C20XE dunno if i want to do anything with that, it has crossed my mind but im not sure on that one, if i did it wud go in a nova, bloody hate corsa's!! lol

Mk1 MR2. Destroy most things round the bends, 4age power in mid engined car and you can buy one with a bit of rust for peanuts

go pug for sure even a 205 gti 1.6 is a lot of fun and a good one is the seam as a 1.9 :)
106 rallye ?
if u are going mi16 make sure it as work done to the sump as Rory said that suffer from oil starvation on track very bad.
the 1.6 gti is what i would be going for there geared a lot better than the 1.9s too

I think that for a track car, you dont really want a front wheel drive hatch, how ever fast it is, its what you drive every day. The MR2 would give you a totally different driving experience, great handling, sublime steering, toyota reliabilty and a 4age screaming to 8000rpm 6 inches behind your ears. I may be bias because I used to have one and without spending silly money you wont find any thing that makes you feel so "at one" with a car.
