Identification question in the bay

What is the black thing next to the fuel filter what looks like a fuel filter but is slightly bigger and has a hose goin to a little black box near it? What is that?

charcoal cannister , i believe its called me old matey .. aint got a clue what she does .. hopefully someone will enlighten us !

dunno what it does but can be removed and bridged with a hose

the vent pipe from the fuel tank runs through it and then when the car is under vacuum it draws the vapour into the engine and it its burnt.

its just instead of venting the vapours straight to atmosphere for environmental and safety reasons.

you can remove it, but don't block the vent from the tank!
