Idle control valve - how it works?

I have got a idle problem on my car that wont go away, i have checked all the vacume lines and there are no obvious open leaks to be seen, however my car persists to idle at 1800rpm.

What does the idle control valve do exactly and could this be causing the problem, the idle adjustment screw makes little difference also.

I unplugged the idle control valve and it makes no difference what so ever if its plugged in or not, which makes me believe its not doing what it should.

Any help would be appreicated

im not its recirculating back out through the turbo

ah right.. just sometimes this can be overlooked and can cause high idle if they are faulty.. did you unplug the tps 2 see if it changes the idle

how long has it been doing it for and what has changed since it happened? has it slowly got worse?

Mine went through a stage of idling high around 1600 and even if i unplugged the icv it didnt make a difference... Stripped the unit down( very carefully as its so delicate inside) and it is back to normal and havent had so much as a peep since. Worked wonders ..
