Hi,
I am looking into getting a Starlet GT Turbo as my 2nd car, (It needs to be the Gt Turbo as the glanza was more than 2x the cost insurance wise and I cannot afford it! The GT is a bit to insure but it is affordable!) But as it will be my 2nd car it will have to be my only car that I use every day and not a toy, so my question is are these good enough in reliability and mpg terms to use every day? I do about 200 miles a week at the moment which I get for £25 in my current car, 40+ mpg, I know this will be worse than that obviously! But roughly what will I get driving normally? Also I was speaking to a friend of mine who warned me about how difficult he found it to get parts for his imported celica he owned a few years back, are Starlets easy to get parts for? The final thing is, as I mentioned it will be my 2nd car and I have read about the performance figures, are they ok to drive or will I need more experience in your opinion?
Thanks

welcome to the site mate theres loads of info on here you can use the search in the top right of the page.

mpg wise driven sensibly you can get around 30 -35 mpg i think my glanza fills up with like £40 which gets me nearer to 300 miles than 200.

and also getting hold of parts for these cars is easy peasy especially on this site an uksc hope that helps you out

also in standard form they are easily controllable if you get to around 200 bhp they are a lot more lively and 300 hp and over they are mental !!

to a full tank you would see 450 kms id say, motorway driving anyway.its very easy to get parts, lots of traders on here have anythin you need and if worst comes to worst you would be able to get them from toyota but that would be rare enough id say.as for performance they are fine standard but ya need to know when to use the power and when not to,if ya have a decent head on ya you should be fine

I get about 220 miles mixed driving to a full tank at the moment. But should be a fair bit better from a standard starlet.

Parts are easy to source. You just get used to which place sells what. Tons of traders on here, camskill.co.uk, fensport.co.uk etc....

I went from a clio 1.2 to a starlet GT and found it fine mate. Just get used to it and take it easy.

Thanks guys, you’ve eased my only concerns of buying one of these! All I need to do now is save up until my current insurance expires and I get the no claims in August, then if all goes well I’ll be joining the GT Turbo club! Can’t wait! I'll need one that hasn't been modified as I dont want to dive with many un delcared mods and declaring them will push the insurance up too much.

No motorway miles, just around town and country lanes etc.. & thats what i got when running the car in !!!! Is something wrong there you think? I do think it drinks fuel and it shouldnt be.. im only running standard boost too!!!!!!!

i dunno bout fuel prices over there or anythin but for €10(petrol is 1.50 is per litre) i can easily get 80km and could stretch to 90 if im brave with the petrol light, this would be mixed driving

The ecu isn't a concern, I'd get one that's been remapped, you could get away with it saying you didn't know, as if you were not told and didn't look how would you? It's things like a new turbo etc that are obvious.
