I just had my clutch replaced as it was quite heavy and juddering, out came a PUCK clutch type, and we replaced with a normal style.
Upon first trying to start the engine up we found it locked, which we could not understand at the time, it seemed that the clutch was almost too big and catching.
We removed the clutch and inspected for problems, and found that there was a small spacer fitted between the flywheel and the crankshaft.
Ive no idea why this was needed and i have not seen them before on starlets, so i thought perhaps this was only needed due to the PUCK clutch.
Anyway we removed the spacer and refitted, and the car does now start but there is a awful knock/rattle noise coming from inside the gearbox - this is not a release bearing noise.
Any ideas what could be the trouble? The clutch ive acquired is a 212mm valeo clutch kit which i got the part number from this website, so i assumed it is correct.
The car drives absolutely fine, engages in all gears without any problem.
