Laptop Crashing!

My laptop is crashing a fair bit this past while.

I checked the storage on my Vista Drive and I have only 2.93GB free of 37.2GB

How do I free up storage? I was blaming all the folders of photos I have stored. I deleted about 15 folders and emptied the Recycling Bin and the Vista storage remains the same:rolleyes:

Help!

If you delete some of your porn that should free up some space. Alternatively, get an external hard drive and put the porn on that ;)

Is your AV software up to date? Run a full scan just to check you have not picked up any viruses/malware etc.

Also good idea to remove any old software you do not need or use, free up some more space. You could also check the event viewer logs to see any reasons/error codes why it is crashing, they are found in control panel, admin tools, event viewer.

Yea I got a new anti virus NOD 32 I think it was called 2 months ago. All viruses and everything was removed.

I will try what you said tho. Thanks.

If you are running Vista it is worth bringing the RAM up to the max capacity for the latop as it's very resource hungry. RAM is pretty cheap.

as turboflow said try refragmenting your hard drive click start-programs-accessories-system tools and then open disk defragmentor then click your drives that might work...
and try deleting your internet tempory files you click tool in the net browser then net options and delete hope that helps man!

defrag wont free up space, u need to run a disk cleanup, that will purge all temp files etc

go to run and type in cleanmgr and hit enter

u can also run a check disk to see if u have broken chains on the hard disk,

bring up the command prompt and type chkdsk /f /r
its a long process but it does well

Defrag is pointless until you've done the cleanup, as suggested above. Clear the system first before defragging.

40GB isn't much these days. I use an external HDD to store everything. Problem solved

i suggest gettin a program like cc cleaner, google it, it will delete all your temp files, and you can use it to remove old programs that u dont use, check your registry for faults the difference it makes is amazin and it only uses a dey mb of your hard drive

this just made me nearly wet myself, but as people say above really.
disk clean ups.
defrag is more to make the computer run quicker. From what i rememeber stuff gets saved over a large space and when things are deleted space becomes free between bits and bobs. Defrag basically clumps everything together so runs quicker...

Lack of space shouldn't be causing the laptop to crash though, does it just shut off unexpectedly?
Or when your putting some progras in use?
Do you get any error messages?
If it just dies im guessing its ti do with cooling, try to let some air at it.
If you think it has something to do with the Windows files open command promt in elevated mode (start>all Programs>Accessories>Command Promt>Right click>run as admin)
Then type sfc /scannow
It'll take a while,it checks for problems in the windows files and fixes any it can.If it says it found a problem and cant fix it type
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt
That will place a file with the details on your desktop, then upload it here.

as others have said do a defrag-search how to do a vista defrag for instructions suited to your system.

Not to insult your computer know how but deleting folders of installed programs isn't really the best thing to do, use the add/remove programs tool to fully remove all files that belong to the program.

But if it's just porn, press the delete button.:p
