main and dip beams not working

hi guys,been working on my mates quadlight the past few days,he had a running issue,faulty fcd,anyway the main and dip beams are not working.theres 14v at the plugs the bulbs are fine,the fuses are fine.im thinking its gota be an earth problem?,

any help would be great if anyone has come accross this problem before.he is going mad only using the car in daytime lol.

could be the light switch that sends the earth if it works that way so it has a positive all the time?

im having a problem with my main beam and ive found that the wire has melted from the switch right the way through the loom to the bulb multiplugs. major pain in the ass!!

im was going to check the switch tonight also,im going to have to trace wires i rekon,

there was power to both pins on the dip beam plugs with the switch on,i never actually checked if there live with switch of.

im guessing they earth to operate,again ive not looked into this in much detail.
