Main Journal Oil Clearance

    Hello, back in a starlet after selling my old GT 7 years ago. I have bought another GT and in the process of a full engine rebuild. I have found some specs online for the main crank journal bearings but I'm a bit confused.

    Main journal oil clearance:

    STD = 0.016-0.049mm

    U/S 0.25 = 0.017-0.061mm

    Limit = 0.08mm

    I have a polished crank with new std size ACL main bearings measuring 0.050mm using a plastigauge. Are these still in spec?

    Yes, perfect. Make sure to raise your oil pressure.
    Did you get 0.050mm on all 5 journals?

    Well from what I have read they are out of spec but I dont understand the 0.08mm limit bit?

    Yes more or less across all 5 are 0.050

    Limit is when you need to regrind the crank.
    You will be fine. Make sure you use the correct oil for your climate.
    I use Shell Helix HX3

    Ok thanks. Decided to go with OEM Toyota mains and big ends. All well in spec now.
