I need some advise on what suspension to eventually upgrade to. i live on the isle of wight and the roads here are very poor. they are extreamly bumpy and i find that as the starlet is so lite it jumps around loads hench you cant go very fast and handleing skips.

when i 1st got the starlet it had TRD springs on it with the std kyb shock's. it handled pretty well but very jumpy. then i changed to some eibach springs and some new kyb shock's (the slightly uprated one's) after this change it was better but still very jumpy and the body roll increased slightly with these shock's.

i dont intened on taking my car to track day's however i do paln on doing some 1/4 miles run's

i basicly want to know what suspension would be best for very bumpy roads.

the starlet is such a small car and any uprated suspensions is going to be bumpy and harsh on bad roads. stick it back to stock is probably uour best bet if you want comfort.

its not going to happen on a starlet on bumpy roads unless you setup your car like rally cars do, thatll be something to look into

lol rally style.

are there any coil overs that have a fairly soft setting. was just thinking that if there was i could have a mess about and get the best balance. where as with just the shock's and springs they dont give you any adjustment.

coilovers will skip a lot more on bumps than just a set of springs.

try stiffening other areas of the car i found that help immensley.

also what size tyres are you running?

ive been out in a starlet with teins on. it was pretty un-driveable on the isle way to hard lol.

as for wheel's i did have some 15's with some 185/45/15 tyre's on it then i changed to some 16's (for futre brake upgrade) with some 205/45/16 on. found they 16's with bigger tyres really helped for traction even if it does tramline a bit. and as for ride it didnt make any diffrence really.

i dont think i could get any bigger tire's under the arches and i dont think that would help with the actully suspension. its the spring rate thats the problem

go for 185/50/15 tyres it will give more give in the tyre and therefore you get a softer ride as the tyres are also helping as part of the suspension

or 14". And GAB Coilovers have been reputed to be very comfortable - there's a set on Yahoo Auctions but the left front coilover is "flat"...according to the detail

just out of intrest why would you recomend going for 185's over 205's? 205's have more width on the tire so would have better traction (even if it does tramline a little) surly 205's would be better?
