I've never bothered to use an alignment tool, just align it by eye.

i was going to suggest similar.. you can just find something like even a stiff straight rubber hose that is of the right diameter.. anything to help align it as it need not be digitally laser accurate. the transmission is heavy too and can help nudge the disc into position if it was slightly off when it's being refitted..
