need some advice on engine problem.

Morning all,

My starlet glanza V acting strange doesn't hardly want to pull away much then to me is very laggy, and f I out my foot down I get to about 4k when the further turbo modes come in it seems like its missing doesbt want to go past 4k revs and engine light has now come on however this then goes of once car has been turned off and back on. Once a few hours have passed. Any advice would be appreciated.

At 4k it sometimes seems to make a popping noise and judder the car as if power has been lost I have no smoke at all or any signs to make me think turbo but I'm not the most clued up tbh. Trying to learn.

The engine light coming on could be fuel cut,have you checked for leaks on vac lines and what turbo setup you running

maybe its detecting knock? and going into safe mode.. or faulty knock sensor?
or possible boost leak..

Oh I'm new to all this you see not had this starlet long, its got the following.

hks turbo
hks exhaust
hks injectors
uprated fuel pump
race intercooler
blitz boost controller
blitz turbo timer
blitz boost gauge

While at 4k it looked like just under 1bar on the gauge if this helps, sorry i need to have a proper look over the entire car over the weekend im just no mechanic, just do me best. lol

would that explain the jolting then at around 4k? and pop not enough fuel going in? i am new to the whole starlet world had the car a few days so will be a slow learning curve project for myself, need someone that actually knows what there looking at really around the essex area to help haha.

but dont get why it just doesnt want to pull away it like crawls off the line its like GOO cmon!!!

would be fuel cut if i goes above 0.85 bar...

lag could be a boost leak?

could possibly be a split turbo, take off the down pie from the turbo and check inside the turbo, make sure it isnt split between the wastegate penny and the turbine housing.

Had similar problem... im running .8 bar and i hit Fuel cut in the exact same way.. :) shouldnt be smiling though as it aint good lol

Danza what at around 4. 5 k did you get round it what did you do, I think I have huge boost leak aswell had a little look think my bov could be stuck open.

I had a good look at it yesterday and found some patchwork done to one of the intercooler pipes, it had a hole in i have done my best to seal this for the time being removed and blocked the dumpvalve and sorted a few boost leaks it now seems to be boosting around 0.5 0.7 bar and i floor it and get no more engine light / fuel cut as of yet! that was only on a short test! i will give it a longer run soon but i think it could just be a boost leak and i know need to give ita full inspection get some new hoses and make sure there is minimal boost leak.

However the crawling pace in like 1st and 2nd gear when you plant your foot the car still just does not want to move i dont understand what this could be i mean it struggle in 1st gear and second gear to even pull up a hill or away untill it hits about 2.5k you may say turbo lag which would come into play but it just does not want to move regardless even before 2k its so strange.
