new engine trouble

just started my car up for first time after putting a 30000 mile used engine in, the car started ok but immediately went up to around 4000 revs and when i turned the key to kill the engine, the engine didnt cut out i had to stall it? any help would be much appreciated! thanks.

where is your old engine?
If you still have it then fit the whole intake side to the new one
and make sure there are no open holes or pipes on the intake side.
