hey guys

been searching hi and low for good forums and this seems the place to be regards to the GT starlets!

just picked up a black 92 GT turbo for very cheap but its very poorly

seems the car needs a lot of TLC

now i am from the north west england is there many members from around this way i know we got a fair few tuners near by so naturally there should be a fair few GT owners locally to me.

decided to name her katy! but now she has a name she needs her repairs she has a blown bottom end its a pretty serious knocking so shes getting trailered to mine soon.

i have been looking high and low for a replacement engine but they just exceed my budget i was thinking 350ish but people are asking for 550 plus 150 odd postage cos there all in ireland!! :(

wouldnt mind finding one local for 450ish or a cheap one far away but it just doesnt seem to go that way. I will be chucking up a wanted post shortly see what responses i get.

what would you guys suggest for poor katy

rebuild or replacement?

i wont be forging because i am not made of money and will not be pushing for serious power (Well not in my first 18 months) :p

180-200bhp would be a great figure for katy but i need to focus on getting her running right first i suppose.

i priced up a rebuild it came to around 700 without labour lucky i can do most at a mates garage got stand and tools ect.

been offered a n/a block for 150 locally but thats a big risk! :(

so yeah so i jumped into the deep end with this one but what is life without its challanges

so throw all your advise and hot tips and me lads and lasses

Alex from chester :D

hello and welcome!!Congrats on your choice mate! I would suggest a full rebuild since the car is turbo and you are not swaping.I mean you have all the parts and you know the car is working, so you rebuild the engine and i'l last forever if you treat katy nice...Cheers mate

Also if you need parts dont buy anything from the 4efe one.If you need a crank buy a 4E-FTE crank, if you need a block, buy a 4E-FTE block. There are differences...Good luck man

^^^^ dude the crank is 100000% interchangeable there is 300bhp starlet tipping around on 4efe cranks !!!!!

Nice one guys cheers

Rebuild costs are huge but tbh I am considering it since second hand blocks are like 500 quid plus! .

If anyone got pointers or stuff for sale to help me out let me know

I have found a n/a block for cheap that I have considered using the bottom end for with my good rods and pistons but something says I will need new bearings when I do the swap so I might as well just get my crank polished or reground if need be

All I know is there's no holes in the block so I can do a rebuild

My budget is 1k to get it sorted but ideally would love to have change

Thanks for all the warm welcomes guys!

no its not ur not doing a full rebuild just fixing the engine !!!!!!! like you said 100 for the engine 100 for bearing set and the price of a toyota oem headgasket and if you want ebay 5e piston rings that will be 300 max

you could do it even cheaper if u buy corolla/starlet 4efe bearings and rings in a motorfactors

http://www.ziscoperformance.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11&products_id=34

the only extra cost is the replacement rod

As I see it I will need

Full set of bearings
Piston rings
Head gasket
Oil pump
Water pump
Belts
Any gaskets and such along the way

you might aswell then just buy a replacement 4efte engine and freshen that up

Yeah I did think that!

People are after 450+

Then still need

Oil pump
Water pump
Belts

Some people can say this is a large hole but for the price I paid its well worth it
