My experience in this area...
Its more than likely a build up of gunge in the heater matrix, its very common. This then impedes the flow of hot coolant to the matrix, and in turn reduces the heat from it...
I'd put a good rad flush do it. Holts (over here in the UK, not sure what brands in Canada) do a 'Rad Flush' or 'Radiator Flush' which loosens up the grime and gunk.
If this fails, you'd need to find the two coolant pipes which go to the matrix (on the bulkhead) and flush them with a good powerful hose.... This should blast any gunk through it.
If this doesnt work (and It didn't on my old GT) I'd switch to something more drastic... I used a drain unblocker (the screw type you just feed in) to bite into the rubbish and pull it free, followed by a blast with the hose. Wasn't long till the water in and water out of the matrix was crystal clear - then my heaters worked incredibly well.

Hope some of that helps you mate, its a huge amount of info and this area has been really well covered in the past
Dave
if it is blocked that badly you might need a new rad.
has it been run without anti-freeze for a while? if you squeeze the radiator pipes you will feel the "crusty-ness" which is the build up of rust
is it me, but its that the whole idea of the rad. lol
Make sure u got enough water and antifreeze or the coolant wont carry the heat. if every thing seems okay i would recomend a fully flush through. and check and see if any of the coolant pipes are a little cruchy. Worst case might be a nackered water pump.

Covered this in detail just a few days ago, and I've linked to lots of good posts in my post in the above thread
Dave
yeah it helped me out but i also have had a blocked rad cost me £170 with large trade discount for a new one non genuin rad will be same as above
p.s listen to dave was a good link...... bare in mind just because temp gauge reads mid way thats not the normal operating temp give it a drive for 5 mins then let it idle until fan kicks in then feel the pipes
other things to try....
flush heater matrix
flush rad
adjust heater box control in passenger footwell <--- cured mine with this
