Got a phone call at work today, at about 12:15, from the mother dearest to say that the staffy I got 3 weeks ago has gone missing. I asked her if she had been out and bolted the gate properly etc, she said yes of course.

15 Minutes later, she got a phone call to say that the dog had been found, maybe around 1/2 miles away in the centre of town, stood in the middle of a shop called Peacocks. I was chuffed that she had been found to be honest but...

I sat down and thought about it, our back gate is 6ft if not more, the pup can't jump over the wall, the gate has 2 bolts on the inside and the gate opens towards you, my pup has no road sense, she will sit at a kerb, but as soon as you get on the road she wants to bolt across it. To get to where she was - She had to cross 7 main roads, if she did walk to town, she would have passed a bakery and also a butchers - now would a dog not follow its nose to food??

She is microchipped and has a little name badge with her name and a mobile number on it - 15 minutes and she managed to get into town??

The woman who had her in the shop said she was just found in the middle of the shop, laid down with no lead on.

I said to someone at work when I first got the call, I gotta go home, dogs gone missing, later afterwards when I said she had been found and brought home, the guy mentioned that not so long back there was a program on TV where people were stealing pets specifically to call the owners and ask for the reward - Think this could have happened to me? Or she was dumped becuase she was chipped and would show at the vets that this wasn't their dog??

I'm still adamant she was stolen :( arseholes of this world :(

Pikes steal dogs all the time, sometime to keep sometimes to sell. Maybe she got away, saying that peacocks is quite a pikey shop isn't it.

I can't see how a pup who has no road sense, can make it across 7 busy main roads and walk into a random shop. If she would walk anywhere on her own it would be the same route I take her twice a day, which is the total opposite direction to the river banks.

Spoke to neighbours, there puppy went 'missing' last month, it was chained up in the back garden....

Doesn't sound good Stuart, least you got her back safe and sound though :)

Looks well when you even have be careful about your dog being stolen :(

Prob stolen to use as fighting dog? Stolen to order? Who knows!! What kind of dog does your neighbour have or had? It was on the news not so long ago that various dog breeds were being stolen to sell in black market, and suppose with yours being a pup could be trained for underground fighting or simply because it was the colour someone wanted and paid some Junkie to steal it for £10??

glad you got the dog back!

my staffy went missing just after we moved (about 5 miles) and by coincidence was found by one of my mates about 5 mins from my old house! I would have thought if it had been stolen you wouldnt have been quite as lucky, maybe it did escape and just followed someone in to peacocks? Dogs will normally attach themselves to someone if they escape/go missing.
