Odd noise... turbo?

Mine makes exactly the same noise your describing, but I'm burning oil so put it down to a seal/bearing failure, when driving for a few mins it goes away and performance is 100% but if I leave it idling for 5 mins and set off again it comes back.the only way I can describe the noise is like blowing a football whistle lightly, sound awful.I got a replacement turbo to fit now and will hopefully solve the problems.I'm assuming it's bad shaft play and the heat and oil circulation on the cold side makes the shaft expand in the housing which in turn makes the noise go away?

I'll make a vid later and then come back to this thread. Hopefully the mic on my phone will pick up the noise.
Im sure someone will have idea when they hear it.

This is sounding similar to my prob. Im not burning oil though. Havent noticed any drop in fluid on the dipstick.

your problem is different to him. your noise comes when idle... his is while driving.

Yeah the rate of the noise rises with the rpm as well so mine is definitly turbo.I think mine is hot side only tho as I don't have any oil coming out the nov or into the intercooler.

I would assume so because the noise goes away,it would be a constant noise without oil.and performance would be drastically affected

The edge of your compressor wheel blades will be rubbing on the inside of the comp housing and making the noise.

If you take your EFI pipe off and look inside there will be a mark where its catching.

Right. Videos didnt go as well as planned. Lol.
Tryed doing a video of mine today but there is too much background noise fr the camera to pick up the sound i am talking about.

Spanner87 sent me a video of his to upload but when i move the file across to my computer i cant play it. Can only play it on my phone and that hasnt got good sound on it at all.

Going to get someone to take the efi pipe off for me this afternoon so i can have a look at the turbo blades. Will post pics of what i find.
