way forward

alright. take superspat's word on this then - sounds like reasonable advice and more or less the same thing i'd say. & yes, you can get engine damage from excessive fuel cuts.. :(

reason i was telling you to stay away from FCDs is that they at times tend to lean out your engine too much and so instead, sometimes it's better to fix the problem causing the fuel cut than to mask it with a defender (FCD) whilst not having other supporting mods..

As far as I'm aware the main culprit would be the HKS FCD, the jam ones are fine.
But yes, hitting fuel cut too often will damage the engine, because the ecu cuts the fuel to the engine, making it run super lean, very bad if you are running high boost pressures.

cheers again for all the advice guys much appreciated.
superspat: reason im getting the toyo mani is i need a mani as mine has cracked on port 3 and im getting the toyo for about £40(which has only done1500 miles) so cant complain at that.
i know the fmic is not going to solve the problem, just wanted to let people know what my intentions are.

Spacecraft: are you saying that using the fcd is an unreliable system then?
if im going the fcd,fpr and adjustable actuator route will this not solve the problem :S
as said before im not going for big power/high boost.

would this do the job? or is it to cheap? just having a look on ebay the now.

That way is not unreliable, some people have run that system for many years, even on bigger turbo's such as td04's.
I would stay away from stuff off ebay, and only buy reputable items from manufacturer's you have heard of, its your engines life at the end of the day. Try looking for a FSE fpr, they are a good make, and pretty cheap, much cheaper than the likes of sard etc.

ok cheers adam,i feel as tho im getting told to go the fcd,fpr route and then on the other hand go full manage ment route.
I WILL be going fcd route as im not going for big power nor im i going to spend £0000's on the car.

can someone tell me what makes i should b going for for the fcd,fpr and actuator ? also a rough price please?

HKS actuator, you can generally get one used for around £75-90.
Jam racing FCD go from about £40.

The emanage is good as it allows finer tuning, it all depends on your budget, if you got money spare then why not go the emanage route. But if your on a budget, not going for numbers and just want some fun, then a FCD and FPR is not a problem

Edit...
HKS adjustable actuator over on UKSC £45.

To solve it you will be looking at around £200-250, with a fpr, fcd, adjustable actuator and rolling road setup. You will also need a exhaust manifold as well if you want to run over stock boost level, because it's very restrictive.
I've pm'd him for you :)

Fcd

@sparky87: mate, i was just saying i wouldn't advise on getting a FCD, but as _shaun_ added (while i was asleep - the bugger beat me to it :p lol), once you get the FCD, you have to tune your fueling just right as well - it's not a plug-and-play job. you can get this done at any tuner/rolling road joint.

please don't get me wrong. a FCD setup can be good for the engine (if not running an after-market ECU) BUT it has to be tuned properly for the job, otherwise you are just asking for trouble. remember it works by modifying the signal the ECU receives, and we all know the phrase GIGO - garbage in, garbage out - so if the ECU is getting wrong engine data, it will give wrong outputs which will further just mess things up for you.. :teach:
