hey people just wondered if its safe paying for something on paypal as a gift? i wouldnt do it normally when dealing with any forum member i dnt know, but the thing im buying is a set of the custom coilovers for the ep95 from jerrick at meister - and as far as ive read hes a very good to deal with.

im sure hes very good trader but i just thought id ask a few opinions on this...cus being over 700quid the 4% is gna take a fair little whack on top so would prefer to avoid it if possible.

Yeah as jonny says, do a bank transfer if i doubt as you will have zero comeback if the deals goes bad paying as a gift

If the item is expensive - collect in person if possible - this way you can also see what you're actually buying and the condition (if used)!
I would only use a gift option with my friends or if it's less than £25!

If the trader has a good reputation - do a bank transfer!

YEah but a gift is the same as paying 4$ extra, but you have no protection from paypal.... so why don't just add 4% and pay as you would normally do??? in this particular case - just pay him over the phone - would be quick and free of charge!

Weird coz I had to pay extra at my own expense.... may be it depends if the other side has a trader's email or not???

Taken from Paypal

Effective from 9 July 2008, PayPal will change its fee structure to make it more attractive for our UK customers to send personal payments. We are pleased to announce that:

* PayPal will not charge a recipient (regardless of their account type) of a PayPal payment if that payment was funded by the sender's bank account or PayPal balance and it is designated a Personal Payment

* PayPal will apply a fee for payments received for Personal Payments or Commercial Payments if such a payment is funded by a credit or debit card, however for Personal Payments funded by a card, the sender will have the option of paying the fees for that payment

You have no comeback from a bank transfer either. Pay over the phone by credit card if you can, they will be jointlh liable for the purchase along with the seller.

when you send a payment by gift, you the sender has to pay the extra 4% fee.so the person receiving the payment gets the full amount.regardless of credit card, debit card or even if the money is already sitting in your paypal account.

DO NOT PAY AS A GIFT SIMPLE!!
i have suffered badly from this by buying a FUCKED ECU form jamesbaa on here i paid using a gift and theres nothing they could do so i have lost my money since that tit would not refund me!

i so wish i red this a couple weeks ago but i was thinking ohh great pay as a gift and you do not pay a fee but wrong wrong me ive now lost 410 pounds due to that timewasting prick! so the fee covers any claims basicaly if anything does go wrong

hmmm thing is i dnt like doing the whole thing with bank transfers lol giving details over phone, btw id just like to stress now that im in NO way questioning jerricks business or his credibility. this is purely an opinions thread as ive heard a lot of stories on the forums in past about this kind of thing.

atm i think im just gna send him the paypal as a gift it seems hes 100% reputable so..

wel take the time too open a thread, about the problem, an that the issue your having with the product an refund with the seller. at the end of the day, if the units faulty then it had too be faulty when it was sold. james might see the thread an put his input intoo it. an ive heard hes a decent enugh bloke so maybe by showing your concern, an you might even come too a resoulution between you. but no need too be offensive. as that is going too put him of even acknowledging you.

simple mate.
