petrol gauge not reading correct

hi guys in need of help... as i keep running out of petrol due to gauge reading wrong.

the gauge on my petrol needle doesnt stay in position it moves about with the light on and off
is it poss i need to change gauge for another ?? or can it be fixed ??

the car is a 1994 starlet gt... any help apprieciated .

its the float in the tank that sends the fuel level reading to the gauge on your dash, if thats stuck/faulty it would cause the gauge to read incorrect
