possibly head gasket going????

noticed on sundy, the top rad hose was solid, but no loss in coolant, and no contamination in oil. is it normal for the pipe to be hard or is the system being pressurised? also cant make my mind up if the coolant smells petrol'y.

cheers

compression test and block test is where i would start dude if i suspected HG....normally the overflow tank would be filling up rapidly if the HG is going or gone.

what do you mean by "block test"?? i dont have my overflow tank coupled up at the moment, but there is no signs of water pissing out of the rad overflow, and coolant stays the same. i had a nova that used to make the coolant pipes go hard, and after about 2 days the gasket went, so i am a little worryed for it going, tho i have just ordered a full top end gasket kit (from toyota) just incase

The expansion tank will be overflowing if your HG is gone. Sometimes it only comes on under hard boost so you might not see it if your driving like a girl.

Or do a sniffer test which you test the coolant for carbon dioxide, that will def tell if your HG is fried.

You need the overflow tank in there dude, tack it back in and bleed the coolant system.

ok, will get it plumbed back in again tonight. i did do the sniff test, but cant make my mind up, but it doesnt bubble with the cap off (ie from the compression, bubbling the water)

will compression test it 2night.

It still sounds like the cap to me.

^ id try that first and bleed the system then see how it is if its still the same id do compression test and block test

the rad cap change hasnt done owt, and my compression tester dont fit cos of the little plugs, will have to get 1 that fits and check it. it still aint loosing any water and not pressuring the expansion bottle (now connected)

Sorry to jump in on your thread but my Glanza empties some water from overflow when doin over 130mph and is only when doing these speeds for a constant 10 miles or so , have had sniffer test which was negative ? Should I be worried ?

Thats why I think its the cap. When pressure builds in the system the spring loaded cap is supposed to open far enough to allow the pressure build up out the spout into the expansion bottle. If you have an excess of pressure, no matter what the cause, it should release it. Check the spout to the expansion bottle is not blocked as well, a long time ago I bought an alloy radiator from America, the cap and neck didnt match and it ended up bellowing out the sides and tubes of the rad.

You shouldnt be doing 130mph for 10miles lol these engines aint designed to be run flat out for a long period of time.

If it isnt pressurizing, theres not oil in water an vise versa i wouldnt be too worried...as the coolant gets hot and the system presureizes the pipes do get slightly hard not saying you overexagerating but could be possible your worrying too much.

Id still check the compressions and block test it also for good measure.
