Hm, i forgot , you are right .
only 6000km since the last rebuild and the compression results:
no.1:100
no.2:120
no.3:155
no.4:155
Today i learned that the workshop never measured the cylinders before rebuilding :argue:, they have put cheap spare parts..
Everything tightened by hand (more?-->better! :haha: ) with no limits! :drive:
I will never visit them again, it's a miracle that i haven't still got burned into my car while driving ! :shoot: :slap:
hi,
my crank sel is liking oil any advice?
ok its alright if i drive around ??
ok its alright if i drive around ??
Forgot about this thread.... some really nasty surprises... Iv got my own wee story to share:
SO the engine failiure was my fault.. i was running down the qtm on an unprepped track, she was on 3rd gear at around 8200rpms.. so i go to put in top gear... but i pull the fucking shifter slightly to the side and without any effort 2nd gear went in.. i felt like somebody threw an anchor out of the back of the car.. it was only a split second but fucking hell.. Anyways i pressed the gas to drive down back slowly... which is when i realised she was working like a box of spanners.. well or like an impreza... see which you prefare.
We put her by the side, and Mr.Pekitu diagnosed my baby as being unwell, so a tow truck was called and taken from Hal Far to Naxxar, which is where
r.Pekitu's garage resides... Anyways plugs are out, and we gave here a slightly cold compression test... (this is where my heart missed a beat... or a few :haha: ).... so the compression was as follows from 1,2,3 to 4 : 8.5, 8.5 ,8.0, 10.0 .... now since my car is a low cr engine she only produces 12bar in each cylinder of pressure... but considering the result we closed the door and called it a night, me of course swearing at myself for the stupid mistake i made.... Chris (mr.Pekitu) was not convinced at all by the test results, in fact he thought it was bullshit, and that since she was coldish the result was affected.
1.) Three days later, i meet up with chris, and reluctantly we opened her up.. first we checked the cams, shims, buckets, (from ontop to see if anything was affected)... but all we found where 2 shims which lost clearance?!!? ie the opposite of what normally happens... so we decide to leave the head as is for the engineer to see what needs to be done..
2.) Head off, pisons bare in front of us, without a scratch?! we where amazed.. nothing, not even a hint of contact.. Pistons where checked to make sure all where reaching the same tdc, to make sure the rods hadnt streched.. yet again, all fine
3.) Upon close inspection of the head gasket, chris explained that it was leaking slightly into the water chamber, which tbh we didnt even worry about as the hg had been on the car since the rebuild (47,000kms), not to forget that we closed 3 times on it, so it did more than its fair share of work... Anyways back on track... the hg wasnt enough either to be the cause...
4.) Sump off, rods n pistons out, packed to go to the engineer, block being inspected thoughouly.. but again.. we find nothing.. i ask chris to change the mains, bigh ends and thrusts since the sump is off.. he didnt like the idea as he checked a few and they where still looking brand new, just like the day we installed them 47000kms before... but in the end we changed them as well :haha:
5.) Head taken and inspected by engineer, he examined it from top to bottom, and found nothing apart from those 2 clearances.. so a mild (less than 0.01mm) skim to the head, and 2 shims resizeds... and i go to collect the head, so that we can continue assembleing the 4e as time was passing and the rwub was just around the corner..
6.) Chris gives a hardcore clean to the head (getting it like new!!! nice n shiny:rockon: ) and regindes manually all the valves, as they had a little bit of too much carbon on the seating.. which i still dont know why its being produced.
7.) Assembly begins, and before you know it she is out again, feeling better than ever!!
8.) So just one final recap, no valves where found damaged, crank, block and head where fine, rods and pistons also.. only the hg was slightly off.. All in all we changed the hg, for an identical cruise one.. (luckily keith (mr.maksar) had one in stock.. we also changed the head bolts, main, big ends and thrusts.. and gave here a good clean :haha: ..
What went wrong? what fucked up when she revved to 12500rpms.. who the fuck knows.... what we know for sure is she was cured by the good doctor... and 2 weeks after mr.pekitu was running 11s down Hal Far Raceway...
Moral of the story: When you dont see a problem, rely on your instict, do what you normally would anyways, and see step by step, sometimes, a problem comes and goes by its own, without giving us the chance to discover and analise it! hehe.. NEVER GIVE UP!
