Problems running COD5...

I was hoping somebody with a bit more knowledge in PC's could help me out...

I bought COD5 last week and obviously installed it on my PC. However, the game takes f*cking ages, as in 5-10 minutes to load every time I click on something i.e. click to resume game or finish a level and move on to the next!

My PC isn't the best in the world by a long shot but it ran COD4 like a dream, no probs at all. I know nothing about PC's lol but I think my Dell has,

Pentium 4 3.00GHZ processor
2GB Ram on XP
Nvidia GeForce 8600GT card
and loads of space on the hard drive (Im guessing these are the important ones)

Does anyone know why it is doing this? Is it just my system can't handle it or should I try re-installing it or something? Help appreciated :)

have a look on the back of the game, does your computer match the right spec?

Yea it does, my graphics card exceeds the requirements, as does the RAM, but it does say at least P4 3.00GHZ processor which I suppose means that I have the lowest it would take. I still wouldn't have thought it would be as slow as it is!

Try messing around with the video settings in the game i.e. resolution and amount of detail in graphics. I never trust minimum requirements on a game usually the recommended IS the minimum lol

it sucks but you may need to tone down your graphics :'(

yeah you do need a console an xbox360 to be precise :p

as for settings, some games run settings which they think your computer is best matched with again they are WRONG! its a hard choice picking to play a smoother game crap graphics or a stuttering thing of beauty.

Thats the thing though, once the game eventually loads up, it runs perfectly with no shuddering etc !

When I want to play it, I have to click on the desktop icon, go and watch TV for 10 mins, come back and it will have loaded the screen where you can choose single player, co-op etc. I then have to click on single player and go away for another 10 minutes until it gives me the option to resume game etc, THEN when I click resume it takes another 10 mins to load the actual game up lol :haha: but

Then the only thing i can think of is either RAM or HDD running out. When you got the game running i.e. on menus press ALT+TAB or CTRL+ALT+DEL and get to Task Manager see whats draining what CPU power or RAM also check HDD space while games running.

All i can think of mate.

Ok cool thanks for that Kei :)!

So can I see the RAM and HDD with the task manager (I take it HDD is hard drive lol?)

more likely the ram will be being used try stopping other programs that use ram

and if your spec wasnt good enough you would see stuttering while playing ,if you dont the your spec should be ok

xbox 360, 3 x 3600 processors for 130 quid - bargain

ive heard the pc servers keep crashing all the time anyway so dont bother online for a bit.

Wouldn't this be the case if I had other programs open at the time of playing though? Because I never do, just the game itself

try this

go here and look for a file called treyarch and delete or make a copy somewhere else and then delete it.
C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty - World at War\main\video

it's the load up video, some people had issue with it freezing. Might be the same problem but if not restore the file from the copy you make.
