Proxes R1R™

paradas arent a semi slick tyre, there just a normal road legal compound tyre.

i really do think your chatting out of your ass a little bit mate, maybe you didnt get the semi slicks up to temperature before ragging it because they are 10% BETTER than normal road legal tyres, why would they bother using them if they werent in motorsport

Wel thats what i found, so to come on here an say im talking shite out of my arse basically is a bit out of order.

This is why i hate this forum, no one can seem to have their own opinion!

Why would you stretch the tyre, from reading here seems to go against everything Toyo recommend on their website. There are recommened tyres for a reason.

- Changes in profile / stretching the tyre also alters the load index.
- Increased load capacity can cause the tyre to overheat.

I thought that I should go for a 195 width and lower profile with my 14x6" wheels, but was recommended compound would make far more difference.

Also you need to remember tyres operate similar to a clutch disc, the more pressure on a surface area will ultimately mean a greater amount of grip or biting force.
Hence why an organic disc does not outperform a puck disc with the same clamping force.

The right size tye depends on your application.

The sidewalls are reinforced on trackday tyres, some flex isn't always a bad thing, as flexing itself will allow the tyre to retain a certain amount of contact. Also they need the right pressures in them!

The r888's arent worth fuck all in dry or wet.. possibly one of the worst rubber compounds ever made.. & yes iv tried them.. best tyre around for good money (as far as semis go are bfg comp ta/s Geforce ;) or M/T Cheaters :p

Yeah i got my R888 for 105 euro each but they are wicked in the dry (but to be fair need a bit of heat in them to get working)! at the 1/4 mile you cant get anything better than them (only slicks would be better) but then my friend on an integra said they are crap! on the Aygo i have the 195 / 50 / 15 and I can almost keep up with evo's when launching and can easily beat glanzas by a very fair lenght buut then my car is different than yours but dont think its because of the lightness of the car that they dont work its probably more because of the setup.

well i can assure u ivan that u are the only one on the island to say theyre good.. evreybody says their shit..:haha:

I wouldnt go that hard on the R888 Hybrid.

I was using the R888 195/50/15 at the front only @ 30psi, I did find that they rolled a bit under hard cornering and a lower profile would help but for a 50 the gripped fine,
I had BFgoodridge Gforce 195/45/15 (road tyre) @ 28psi on the back and they were fairly good too!

I was happy with the performance from them but I have never tried anyother type of tyre!! :haha:

I was talking to a DC5 owner and he was running the R888 at 40 psi, he said they dont roll as much. but they are a heavier car and all that!

Johnny_C - the yokes are good, but not great.

I have tested the yoko parada spec C and Toyo T1R back to back. The Toyo is not only superior in the wet, it is even better in the dry too!! Suprised me a lot!!! And the toyo is normally cheaper too!! Shame as the yok looks awesome - it just doesnt perform so well.

I believe the yoko is a bit less prone to overheating on track but not overly sure as last time i used toyo on track the tracking was out.

I will be trying both my yoko and Toyo at the welsh track day.

And anyone says blah blah how can the toyo be beter then then the yoko in the wet - just take a look at the tread pattern. The yoko does not have a suitable tread pattern for dispersing water. This i knew when fitting them always planning on them as summer tyres and the toyo for winter. I just wasnt expecting the toyo to be better in dry too!!

Interesting, how do the two compare for lifespan?

hard to tell really mate as i havent really kept tabs of the miles.... The yoko had a suprising about of wear to the front but then i remembered i did do a keevil airfield day on them so not bad!!

On another trackday training session i went to the toyo sideways took one hell of a bashing! Like i lost nearly half the toyo letters LOL. I dont think either of them have particularly good life span, but its an acceptable time for the purpose of our cars and the way they get driven! I know i killed a set of T1S in about 3k before on the front!!! that was down to bad tracking though lol. i will see how they wear on the track on sat.

All very true and useful information

bfg's are what I would class as "dangerous." I would rather use second hand stockers. I currently run Toyo R888's GG compound. Their the best tire Ive used in the dry and still faily good in the wet. The only downside is they only last about 5000kms if your taking it easy. Still, its all I run on my car, even on the street. I run 13x205x60 on 13x6 rims. This is the same tire/wheel combo that holds not only the fastest street tire fwd q/mile record but also varying, hillclimb, circuit and motorkhana records in fwd's. Using them on the circuit they tend to overheat and turn to goo in about 5-8 laps depending on the track. Mind you this is 40C + days. I could increase the rating to a M but my cars overheating anyway so whats the point :p Tig ran an 11.5 on the M/t's, their soft as hell but I doubt thatd last 2 seconds on a circuit.

i paid £85 a tyre for R888 hard compound, theyre a decent bit grippier than the eagle f1's i had before but i cant see them lasting very long on day to day road driving

i tried to get the R1R's but the dealer said they didnt exist lol so i took him a print out of one and told him to phone toyo for me but they are only available in japan and america at the minute

on a brighter note though toyo did say they are reviewing this in May and it doesnt look like they may release this tyre in the uk!!! i have seen some good reviews on american sites

Didn't want to start a new thread, but this is bound to be a dumb question and I couldt find the exact answer I was looking for,

But can you stretch normal tyres I.e. Proxes tIrs? Or only soft compound like Rtriple eights?
