pulling perfect 0-60

right im looking for a bit of advice on techniques to pulling the perfect 0-60. ie, revs at pull off, rpm and speeds in each gears.

basically im talking dry track street rubber and standard glanza.

i cant seem to be hitting 60 in anywhere near book times so dont know if im beeing too kind to the glanza in my efforts or pushing it past the power stage, or worse my glanzas running weak.

i know there are lots of variables, and peoples techniques differ but it would be nice to hear some opinions.

i know there is the 1/4 mile tech discussion and this is kinda similar, so my bad if you wanna merge the two.

what kinda 0-60 times are others getting in there stock glanzas?

I don't drag race or ever tried, but I know some guidelines.

First off, when taking off, the appropriate revs to dial in require your dyno sheet - it's the point where the horsepower & torque graphs cross - why this is I cannot remember, something along the lines of enough torque to get a good start and enough horsepower to not bog down...I don't know, will need to research, but that's around 3500rpm-4000rpm...

When stepping off the clutch, you want to find a happy medium - don't just pull off the clutch, chances are you'll get too much wheelspin, and will run a lot of driveline shock. Don't be too cautious or your clutch will be a smoldering pile of dust. You have to step of sharpish but ride it ever so slightly - you're looking to get just the right amount of wheelspin to pull off the line as quick as possible without bogging the car down

The rest is a matter of changing gears properly

Riko, according to that and my dyno graph I would be best launching at over 5k then, as thats where my power and torque curves cross. If I launched at that my tires would'nt last long!:homer:

meh, I did say "general" guideline :p And I did read it up...I'm not mad, crazy, the boy that cried "Wolf" :(

My only advice, Practice makes perfect.
Simple solution - To much whell spin, then less throttle - Bogging down to much, more throttle.
Theres a happy medium there somewhere, its a case of finding it.

@Riko - Wouldnt everyone be launching at 5252 rpm, thats where the power and torque should cross on the dyno on any car?

ive never gone over 3600rpm on a launch in any FWD car ive been in.

My gt seems to like about 3300 but no hard clutch engagment, if you can engage the clutch slowish (not so much it burn) but enough to generate a smooth engagment whilst adding more throttle as it engages, youll wheels will still spin but once it engage vary the throlle on and off untill you get traction.
everycar is diffrent, but you have to get a feel for it really. as Rory said its about practice and weather conditions ect.

As golden said you have to 'feel' it its no precise science and therefore is hard to explain but all it takes it practice, its one of them things you need to read how the cars handling the conditions through using the pedals. Just get out there and find some traffic lights! :)

I idle off the line then plant it :p

If i rev it at all even at 1500RPM the car goes into a spinning frenzy.... So my only option is to jolt off the line using some quick clutch control movement the plant the fcuker.....

moral of story, every car has a different power curve/clutch characteristics... you have to find the right way in your very own car.......

Once, I launched with the engine bouncing off the rev limiter and on the
green light just slid my foot of the clutch peddle...

Do NOT launch this way... you just have to practice with your own car and
keep in mind, track temperature, tire pressure, RPM, clutch condition all play
a part in the 'perfect launch'!

like 'goldenvtr' said, i find my happy medium leavin at 3500rpm's and "riding" the clutch. my best time so far in the 1/8th mile = 660ft = (200meter) is 9.6 secs @ 76mph with 12psi (0.8bar boost).

Depends how much money you want to spend really. If your cars all stock then just keep upping the revs while sliding off the clutch till you find what works well. The gear box is very strong so I wouldnt worry about blowing it. I lauch every time at about 6000 - 6500rpm and step off the clutch, but thats what works for my setup and it took me a long time to work that out. Thats track though, on the street its about 5500rpm and sliding the clutch.

If you want to start getting serious, then start looking at lsd, good tires, whiteline anti-lift kit, rebound adjustable front suspension, control arm brace, stiffer rear suspension, the list goes on.

Also if your cars stock then Id say shift gears in 2nd and 3rd at a little over 6000rpm as the power seems to drastically taper off after that.
