Hi guys,
I removed my power steering pump on the weekend and got carried away clearing out my engine bay.
There was a tube that run from the top of the radiator to the top of my coolant reservoir. Then there was a tube that run from the top to the inside of my engine bay and didn't connect to anything, i.e. just venting to thin air.
There was a small amount of coolant at the bottom of the reservoir with no means of escaping or being used unless the reservoir filled up and fluid escaped through the tubes at the top or some kind of vacuum created to suck the fluid back in the radiator.
In 10-15 years of car ownership (old-git) I have never had to top up my coolant. I've replaced it and flushed it but never had to top it up.
Am I missing the point or can I get away without any reservoir and just keep an eye on my levels before each journey?
I have left a length of tube on the end with a plug in to allow a small amount over overflow.
Any comments would be appreciated.
