Rapid popping at high boost

I just installed my TurboXS Dual stage manual high performance boost controller and was adjusting hi and lo boost settings. After a couple of runs I find that when I get to about 13 to 14 psi I get a rapid popping sound out the exhaust, the car hesitates and the a/f gauge goes from 10.6 to between 11.1 - 12.6. Once I back off a bit the popping stops. Is this detonation which means I need to add more fuel or could it be the injectors messing up and need to be cleaned or changed??? Or even worse  I f@!*ed my engine (car still accelerates like a beast).

technicaly fuel cut is at 13.5psi so exactly at the right boost for than. Not sure why it should pop, but it definatly should hesitate.

I have an emanage ultimate and am accustomed boosting higher than this. All I did was to turn down my boost on the HKS actuator and install the TurboXs BC and adjusted it. There I don't believe its fuel cut. The car does no jerk like hitting fuel cut. There is a loss of power and stuttering (not jerking).

Just changed plugs about 2 months ago. Leads are HKS. I would have taught that if it was dizzy/plugs/leads the fuel mixture would be getting rich and not lean since the fuel is not being burned properly.

I am more thinking fuel pump/regulator/injectors. I changer my fuel filter yesterday in an effort to cure the problem but not change.

My computer is down at the moment I will have to see if I can get one borrowed to have a look at what is happening.

just becuase the leads are hks doesnt mean they are any good. especially if you dont know how old they are!

i would still change the dizi cap, rotor arm as a matter of course if it hasne been done already. also check them if they have been done as even brand new things can break.
also borrow a working set of leads and see how you go from there

Yup had the same problem on my bros GT4 when we were turning the boost up on that above stock, replaced the leads, dizi cap and rotor arm and it runs sweet as a nut now, try them first.

seriously tho. First thang have you got a bcc or fcd. Otherwise i think it is a bit more than just coinsidence that this is happening exactly where you get fuel cut.

Well did some more adjustments to boost today then took the car for a run and there was no popping. Then suddenly the car just shut off and would not start. Played around with a few wires in the engine then it started and was idling and I closed the hood it shutdown again and would not start. Left it for a bit then it started again. I noticed my TPS was not connected after connecting it and going for another run the popping started again. I was so fed up by then that I just drove home. Checked my ECU diag. codes and there was 12, 14 and 24. 12 and 24 was always there because I tried starting the car forgetting to plug in the dist. harness and 24 came from me unplugging the air temp sensor while the car was running I just never cleared them. However, 14 is new and has to do with the igniter or coil I believe one of then are going. Now I do not know if this has anything to do with the popping. Can anyone shed any lite on my problem.

Thanks

with my jam ecu i get a permanent code 14 come up. car runs perfect. tried different ignitors and coils as well as earthing it all better and its made no difference. its something the ecu does as ted has the same code, but no actual problems.

Well, after changing coil and igniter to no avail (as CONDOMEN said). I started looking at the connections between the eManage Ultimate and the stock ECU and found a partly broken ignition input wire. Cut and soldered back wire and its all good now.

Thank you all for your input.

Rapid popping at high boost.... Update

Well after thinking the problem was solved it actually came back. Turned out the problem was two fold. The first problem was that the emanage ultimate ignition chip came loose and was causing the car not to start. I resoldered the chip and that solved the starting problem. The next problem was the dizzy cap which was causing the popping under boost. Luckly, I have several of those so I just changed it and all is well now.

Thanks again for the help.
