in my experience pretty well, but the intel still seems superior on that front

It's clear that Intel's Core 2 Duo lineup offers superior performance across the product line when compared with AMD's Athlon 64 X2. In some applications, even a lower-cost Core 2 Duo can outperform some of the higher-end Athlon 64 X2s

this seems to be the general consensus when googling for cpu comparisons, it's only gaming where the AMD excels, and even then not by loads.

True say, thats the main reason i want the power, for gaming use. At the moment, my amd sempron (clocked to 2.4ghz) handle really well when multi tasking apps. It runs good graphics with need for speed carbon. but for higher level games, i need to upgrade

well if you're running an oc'd sempron and getting good results, expect excellent results from the X2 chips also, i recently upgraded the shop computer from a sempron 3400 to an x2 3600 and even that was a noticable difference in terms of performance :)
