removing a crank shaft

can it be done without taking the engine out or will it be best to take it out?

apparntly you should be able to take it out from the bottom but im not sure how

Sump off, big ends off, main bearings off, out comes crank

what about the clutch and gear box? won't i need to remove them one end and then the drive and timingbelt pully the other end?

you need to remove the gearbox ,timing belt ,oil pump also ,oil pick up and ofcourse the sump

No mate i do it all the time you just need a hammer.

its way more hassle than its worth in a starlet to leave the engine in place and removing the crankshaft.
might as well take the whole thing out and do a proper rebuild.
