If its the 3rd pic down you are talking about its part of the automatic gas recirculation system. The solenoid gets energised at some time (think its either idle or deceleration) and allows fuel vapours to be sucked through the charcoal cannister and back to the tank for stupid emissions legislation. Never had one of these on a car for more than 1 month before ripping it out.

Cheers John top man ! don't need to worry about it then ?

So, in a ep91 would i need to vent the hose that was going into the charcoal box to atmosphere since theres no black box to return it too? And definately don't block the pipe or it could damage the fuel pump. Does that sound about right?

@browndk04: i'd say leave the charcoal system in place, but if you really must undoubtedly remove it.. :( then connect a pipe from the exit pipe (that would have been coming from the charcoal canister) to vent under the car as far away from the exhaust as possible. if you can, give it some sort of mesh at the tip to prevent dirt and insects getting to clog it up. remember what's being vented here are fuel vapors which are just as volatile as gas itself, plus, you exhaust gets ridiculously hot and we don't want to turn into a fireball now do we..? :)

@SiCaln: 1.6kg is nothing. run with 2 liters less of gas and you'll have saved you the 1.6kg you were trying to get rid of by removing your charcoal system.. :D hehe

I think i'll leave it in place and look for a smaller filter from another car just to tidy the engine bay up. I'm not too keen on having it vented to the hot engine bay.

Cheers for the reply
