Safe Water Temperature

i just dont believe it should be near that temp, hence why thermostats open at 85 or watever it is, to allow for the cooling, if it wer to be higher, why would they sell better thermostats, with lower temp openings

i just think with my experience, 100 degrees is too high, and the pink toyota cooling is the best for a reason lol, get it in there haha

it should stay at about 85 ish while driving, will go up when sitting, as long as the fan comes on and drops the temp and then the fan stops again then its fine.

the higher boiling point itself doesnt raise the efficiency, but the higher pressure does. a higher pressure means that a higher boiling allows more heat to be absorbed and then exchanged in the rad.

thats isnt written brilliantly, but hopefully you can get the jist of what i mean ;)

I wasn't implying that it does, I was replying to Frankie to add figures to his statement, to show that by just having the pressure there is sufficient room for just water, and hence why most coolant will not add actually cooling.

The point in the thermostat is to bring the coolant up to temperature and keep it above 82°C (depending on stat rating). It's there to regulate minimum coolant temperature, not maximum coolant temperature. Maximum coolant temperature is regulated mostly by the radiator fan switch. The pressure relief/vacuum return radiator cap is there as a sort of fail safe to relieve the pressure in the system if it rises above the caps maximum pressure rating, if it didn't do this, in an extreme situation the coolant in the system would vaporise.

that is a very good explanation. rep for that mate. couldnt have said it better myself!

this is why i dont see the point in low temp stats, the engine was designed to run at that particular temp.

ahh, im used to working on larger diesels, the thermostat cotrols the max temp on them, but the above makes sense lol, im assuming the thermostat on the car water system works in reverse then, the higher temp closes the stat, lower temp allows it to pass, wher as where i work, its the other way around lol

No, at higher temps the stat opens to allow the coolant to circulate through the radiator. When is below it's rated temperature it is closed to let the engine heat it all up. if there was no stat the coolant wouldn't heat up sufficiently.

agree with this. i lived in a hot country. never used a colant though. instead im using a pure distilled water. i used a coolant before seems hotter than water alone

my temp gauge on normal driving on motorway or roads with no traffic reads 60-70 then when in traffic goes up to 80 or bit higher which is about half on the std gauge but fan kicks in and brings it down.
