The pressure you feel coming out of the breather is caused by the air in the engine being pushed around as the pistons go up and down, so if you feel it at tickover you should feel it blowing slightly in pumps.
Under boost there will be more air coming from the breather because the older engines cant fully seal the boost in the cylinders so some escapes.
Increased RPM = air being pushed around at a faster rate and more air from the breater.
When you get cracked pistons most of the pressure escapes and causes excess air and oil mixture being blown from the breather.
