setting the timing

why do you have to bridge te1 and e1 ports on diagnostic plug to set the timing?? i didn't, should i do an ecu reset?

you do this to drop the rpm to 700 rpm iirrc otherwise you wont get an accurate reading. ecu reset why.

It also locks the base timing to 10 degrees BTDC, if you dont do that its about 25 degrees BTDC
