Setting up a HKS PFC F-con

Hey...

I have a PFC F-con, with e304 rom, and planning on installing it in my car soon. My engine is stock, at the moment, with only an FMIC, 8mm magnecore leads, irridium 6 spark plugs, HKS ssq BOV, SARD FPR, and a meshed up CT9 turbo instead of an air filter.

Question:

1. Can i use a Turbosmart FCD instead of a HKS FCD?
2. What type of GCC would i need, and would i really need it?
3. Would i need a boost controller with this setup? (my actuator diaphram has gone weak)

Would appreciate your honest opinions,

cheers :)

one more thing, will the PFC F-con work well with the stock MAP sensor, or i will need to get a HKS 3 bar MAP sensor?

Cheers

As far as I know from when I used one it runs on its own hks map sensor and obviously std ecu runs the std map sensor at the same time.
You don't need the gcc but it helps fine tuning especially low down. Saves petrol.
I ran this with a manual boost controller and it worked ok. And 370 injectors on td04 but 330 or std fine too on ct9

The 3bar (hks) map sensor is a denso item

A hunt should produce the part number

1: you can use any fcd
2: gcc 1 or 2 dont matter they do same thing
3: yes upgrade to hks 1 it boost will be more stable and come in harder
4: best to run the fcon map sensor more bhp will be gained same for gcc

the pfc can be runned without but it wont be anywhere as near as with the 2 options that go with it

i run it any questions just ask there a great piece of kit 1s you have a full setup

thanks for the enlightment guys...:)

Ok, for now i have the PFC F-con unit only, a turbosmart in cabin manual boost controller coming soon, and a friend of mine has a fcd up for sale, (i forgot the brand).

So, now i will need to find:

- a HKS map sensor
- GCC 1 or 2
- A wideband AFR guage
- And an EGT guage.

Did i miss out anything, for a good setup?

i'd add in a good tuner who uses some kind of detonation listening device

does any of the stuff in the listing allow you to alter ignition?

gorglan sadly the pfc fcon wont alter ignition BUT the apexi itc can be used in conjunction to alter ignition

5e colin is that a bad thing?

Can i use a greddy 3bar map sensor instead of the hks map sensor?...and how's the performance with the stock 4efte map sensor?

what are you suggesting gorganl2000?

i'm suggesting that for a proper tune you need to consider both fuel and ignition adjustment....they compliment each other

a lot depends on your turbo set up, gas quality, engine build, etc

detonation can kill the pistons and/or piston ringlands prematurely if its happens and is not rectified quickly

i guess if you plan to keep boost relatively low with the ct9 then MAYBE you may get away with just a fuel tweak, as the stock ecu should pull some timing....however, its not something i'd recommend

maybe investigate the piece 5e colin recommended ---apexi itc...to help tune ignition

my other concern tends to be all these pieces of individual equipment trying to work together....seems the pfc fcon is a good unit based on 5e colin reviews, but wouldn't it have been a little easier to just get emanage ultimate with a plug and play harness and go from there??

just an alternative view----no harm meant

hmm...you have a point gorganl2000, i have thought about getting an emanage ultimate, or an EMS, but rightnow my budget only allows me to use the F-con instead, plus i had it at home for a while now...anyway, i was -planning on raising the boost to 0.9 - 1bar max...will detonation be a problem with that boost level?

5ecollin what do you think? :)

i ran upto 1.2 bar tdo5 on stock 10degree timing no isseu

i think any 3 bar ( 3 wire ) denso unit will do ??? check this link out it says it works on fcon i know some gm 3 bar maps do !!!

i made 273 bhp on my pfc setup there was more there to get .its old but very easy to diy tune with good results they also take bigger injectors !!!

you could try this wire it up and put a pump to it and read the signal ?

hmm...so, i'm guessing it'll be alright with the CT9

I'm planning on getting a Greddy 3bar map sensor from tunning developments, it should work right...

btw, are you using a 5efte or 4efte?...cuz your name says 5e...

i use them on both engines my best result on the 5e but there desined on 4e :)

indeed the ct9 at full max is only using like 30% of the pfc fcons full potential

hmm..alright then, later on when my CT9 dies i will upgrade to a GT20-fs from WEPR, maybe then i'll squeeze some real fcon power out of it...:)

For now, until i get everything required for the setup, i'll just get a FCD, boost controller, and adjust my FPR...it should do the trick for now...right?...
