As the popularity of any site increase then it brings with it the hated spammers. Every site has them and there is no way of stopping them completely as they make changes to the spambots as you change the way the registration etc works to try and get rid of them.
All we can do it try and make the site more secure and make changes to the registration process to try and stop most of them but you especially cant get rid of the other type of spammer, this type is the bored wierdo who have nothing better to do but spam forums for fun just to get a reaction.
