Just as i thought i had found the reason for my idling problem, i went to start the car to see what's what. When the car didn't turn over i thought it must be the battery even though i bought a new one not long ago. So i charged the battery but now it is the same when i turn the key you just get a loud tick and nothing. i was working in behind the enigine at the vacuum lines maybe i hit the starter wiring? or is it just gone? all the ignition lights still come on. any help much appreciated. Thanks Ryan

ive kept a spare starter motor for ages and have had a few starlets, the motor itself seems completely bombproof. check the small wire thats on a small spade type connector is still on. theres also a larger connector.

Not that bomb proof mines always been abit dicky since I've had the car, sticks alot, replaced it now with the one of the newer starlet it's the quicka startin one sounds like a more modern car instead of that old dodgy starter noise lol

when my car was being sorted for a standalone there was a starting/idle problem that took a long time to sort. weeks of just cranking and cranking on the original motor. its still fine after all that abuse.

my first gt had the larger motor(snow version) and it sounded much better , put me in mind of the noise my old gt4 made when turning over.
