good going alf, another awesome write up.
how is your camera mounted for the in car vids? i want to try something similar
for next season and could do with a few ideas.

cheers
ryan

I use a very simple (and ghetto) method... DUCT TAPE!!!!!

For a "How To", click HERE!

By the way, the above method is, obviously, a down'n'dirty method... there
are other, more elegant, methods I've used throught the years!

More Beaver tracks.....

Because I do enjoy the photographic aspect of drag racing, as
soon as I knew, for certain, that I was heading up to Beaver
Springs Dragway, I went to the TRACK WEBSITE and got the link to
the track photographer, Todd Dziadosz, whom I had the
pleasure of meeting and speaking with for a while at the track...

Here are some shots he took of me and TERCEL1:

loving the how to lol. must be fairly stable as your vids are clear as and i dont notice any movement from the camera.

unfortunately that wont work on an ep71 because the dash is sunk down below the bottom window line everywhere except the instrument cluster. im sure ill figure something out hehe

The bottom of the camera is flat and the top of the dash is flat so the duct
tape makes for a stable connection... I don't think it'd work out as well on
my '97 Tercel, where the dash had a curvature over the cluster area...

TERCEL1: A memorable Memorial Day

Working vacation relief shifts for VOA (The Voice Of America)
doesn't give me a set work schedule so my days off have no
set day... so, as soon as this week's VOA schedule was
posted and I saw that I had this Sunday off, I quickly did
some research to see which area track had test 'n' tune.

Recently re-opened Maryland 75-80 had T'n'T, but it also had
elimination runs (which I felt would slow things down
considerably for T'n'T) and after my first experience at the
track on its re-opening several weeks ago, I decided, instead,
to travel South to the state of the art facility, MIR (Maryland
International Raceway)

Poster640.jpg

While MIR was also having a special show today, their T'nT
had always been run very efficiently and I was always happy
with the number of runs. The "show", however, slowed things
down considerably... where on a strictly T'n'T day at MIR
produces anywhere from 8 - 10 passes, today's runs where a
meager 4 runs... I may have been able to squeeze off 5 runs
but after waiting pretty much all day for the 3 runs, I decided
to run in the 'gamblers race" which means if you lose, you're
finished racing for the day... No loss, as I was tired and
wanted to go home anyway. There had also been a couple of
minor rain delays which added to the overall delay in running
the T'n'T...

I arrived at MIR around 8:45 AM, staked out a place for
TERCEL1's pit area...

IMG_3609640-PitArea.jpg

Got the car prepped, got it teched in and then back to the pit
area to wait for 10 AM and the start of what I thought was to
be open sessions but, it turned out NOT to be that format so
there was plenty of time between T'n'T sessions to look
around and absorb the goings on at MIR:

Waiting out a passing rain shower:
IMG_3652640-RainDelay.jpg

Although the limited amount of passes didn't allow me to fiddle
with the boost and FCD, I did manage some very consistent
and respectable 60 foot times as you can see by the day's
"report card":

When the announcer read off the final digit of the 6 digit
winning number and I had it, I had all I could do to not to yell,
"I WON! I WON! I WON!" I HAD IT! WHOO-HOO!
$300 bucks!!!

"I WON! I WON! I WON!"

Who cares if the prize money was all in $1.00 dollar bills!!!

nice work alf
run no #38 would have been very good indeed if it had gone 100%. your half track is .1 seconds better than my 13.7, so i imagine it would have been something special! gives you a good idea what its capable of anyway.

that drag strip is indeed flash. they even have sealed pit areas! my local strip only has gravel and grass.

i like your T bar style gear stick. its very American
congrats on the winnings also!

I actually enjoy a grassy pit area... makes for a very
homey feel to the track... like when I went to
Beaver Springs Dragway...

TERCEL1: Sixteen Candles!

I had a less than stellar experience when I went there on their
RE-OPENING WEEKEND a while back but, seeing that TERCEL1 may
be out of commission for a while this coming week and I DID have
this Sunday (06/07) OFF... so, guess where I spent my
afternoon?

Here's me and the owner of MD 75/80 Dragway, Lisa Stanley:

TERCEL1: Pitiful T3 turbo driving!!!!!

Callin' it like I saw it... PITIFUL!!!

Run063ShiftLight.jpg

I can't even begin to explain to you how disappointed I was/am!

It's just like when I originally put the 4EFT in TERCEL1 and the
first time out, I couldn't manage to run a quicker ET than I'd been
running with TERCEL4...

Super Moderator <a href="http://www.toyotagtturbo.
practice makes perfect alf! ull need some getting used to when using the T3.. dont forget a bigger turbo needs to run at more pressure to give positive results ;)

fantastic updates as usual, & well done on the new ET!!

i think that you did well considering its a new set up. the car will behave completely different with the bigger turbo and its just a case of getting used to it.
how much boost is it making?

specs and pics of the new set up?

TERCEL1's current set-up makes 207HP @14 psi... and here's a photo of the
engine bay with its present configuration:

IMG_3721-ManifoldCropped640.jpg

IMG_3723-TurboCropped640.jpg

All I know is that it's a T3 turbo and before the current conservative tune
was making 227 HP @ 17 psi but with stock 4EFTE internals, I didn't want to
push the engine or my luck!

TERCEL1: PITIFUL (Part II)

I almost passed out from the heat and humidity but that's not
what caused another lackluster performance from TERCEL1...
it was my driving (or lack thereof)

ReportCard06-26-09640.jpg

Below are a few videos:

Run#009 (Interesting perspective)
Run#011 (Misfits 'n' miss shifts)
Run#014 (Nice profile shot)

By the way, in R#014, the other car must've had a bit of
trouble 'cuz it only ran an 18.14 ET, making TERCEL1 look like
it used to in the olden days!

Enjoy! I sure ain't!

glad your in the 13's again alf but from a T3 i would expect lower 13's cos you are still running your own ct9 times ,but then a t3 under 1bar of boost wouldnt produce much. What boost were you running 13 /14psi? cos if you dont go 16psi as hybrid said you wouldnt be gaining anything on the ct9 with the bigger turbo
