Quite unexpectedly, today (Sunday, November 18th) marked the ending of the racing season at Capitol Raceway in Crofton, MD, where, 8 months ago TERCEL1 made its debut in the very first race of the 2007 season.

Although probably a few more weeks of test'n'tune at other area tracks, todays closing of 2007 Capitol Raceway season had TERCEL1 almost, fittingly, running the last race but, it wound up being the next to last run down the 1/4 mile.

Here's the very SHORT report card from today's final 2 trips down the 1/4 mile:

Nice times, do you feel you have improved over the season?

I M M E A S U R A B L Y ! ! !

Due to a very strong wind and cold temperatures on my very first trip to the track (Mar '07)
after the 4EFTE swap, the timing clocks didn't register the 1/4 mile ET but, on that
very first run, my 1/8 mile numbers resulted in a 10.686 @ 71.15 mph. Even though track
conditions were not the best, by the 9th and final run (having gotten myself, somewhat,
accustomed to all the new 4EFTE horse power) my 1/8 mile numbers had dropped to
9.994 @ 71.69 mph and with the timing equipment now working, my 1/4 mile numbers
(best of the day) was a, 15.613 @86.96 mph.

Keep in mind, the previous year, racing a n/a 5EFE '97 Tercel, I'd managed to consistently run
1/8 mile numbers in the high 9s/low 10s @ around 69 mph with a BEST 1/4 mile time of
15.595 @ 86.40 mph so, opening day with the 4EFTE swap was a bit disappointing... but,
THAT would soon change.

Experiencing transmission problems on my next trip to the track, the best I could squeeze out of
TERCEL1 was a 15.770 @ 86.71 mph...

By the time TERCEL1's transmission finally exploded in late April, my BEST 1/4 run was a
14.804 @ 92.56 and I was feeling pretty good about myself. Please note, by THIS TIME my
weight reduction campaign on TERCEL1 was well under way!

All runs prior to this time were, I think, made with my boost pressure at around 5 psi... but,
for the second trip to the track (Jun 22nd) after the transmission repair, I turned the boost
up to around 10 psi and saw TERCEL1 run a best time of 14.639 @ 92.06 mph...
three weekends later, on July 6th we ran a BEST of, 14.468 @ 93.21 mph.

Unknown to me, the next 5 track outings found the diaphragm in my eBay BOV progressively
worsening.

After returning to the track on October 5th (with a Greddy BOV), the next time out
(Oct 12th) I clocked another BEST, 14.388 @ 93.50 mph, followed 2 outings later (Nov 3rd)
with another BEST, 14.315 @ 93.60 mph and 4 outings later, my current BEST of
14.034 @ 97.59 mph!

Thanks for your kind words HYBRID and although various area tracks will be running
weather permitting schedules, it's my home "field" (Capital Raceway) which has closed for the
season... and yeah, PHIL, I'm planning a few subtle things before the opening of the 2008
season. I sort of like to take it slow... half the enjoyment is getting there... Feel you miss out
on a lot if you get there too quickly... Sorta like sex! (HaHaHa)

Might even try my hand at bracket racing next year... dunno?
