Tercel1: Fin (2008)

After keeping an eye on the weather all week, in hopes the
weather for today would be suitable for drag racing at Cecil
County Dragway.

All week the forecast had been for a 20% chance of snow
showers for late afternoon (on race day) but, when I woke up
bright and early this morning...

The snow showers were no longer in the forecast but it was
colder than a witch's tit in a brass bra...

If temperatures are freezing or below, tracks around here will
not open for racing but, the temperatures were expected to
reach the upper 30s so a quick check of the track's website
and I had all the information I needed:

I went out, started the car up with no problem and just
allowed the car to idle while I gathered my "stuff"

A quick stop at McDonnell's for a breakfast to go and I was
under way... here's a photo taken inside the tunnel which
goes under the Baltimore harbor (or is it harbour?)

I'm God's lonely man...

Oh wait!!! That's a line from the Robert Deniro film
"Taxi Driver"... Ha-Ha-Ha!

I paid my $35 bucks, got TERCEL1 ready to roll, got teched in
and at 9:59 am, TERCEL1 embarked on its first of 16 passes
down the 1/4 mile...

ReportCard640.jpg

Today was the first time EVER that TERCEL1 ran 3 consecutive
passes under 14 seconds (Runs#163, 164, & 165). I was
quite surprised because while the colder temperatures do
wonders for POWER, they do very little for traction but, as the
day wore on, the track must have heated up enough to
support those times!

Click the photo below to hop on board and watch me surprise
a 5.0 Mustang...

He must've been thinking, "WTF!?" :haha:

I'm posting this next video to demonstrate the importance of
CONCENTRATION! FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS!

The car next to me was on the bottle and as he prepared to
stage, he was purging his system which makes the
"pshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, pshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" sound... I
was sstaged and ready to go and waiting for him to roll into
the beams... I waited and then I looked over at his lane and
in that split second, the tree was activated and when I
resumed looking forward, the amber lights for my lane had
already begun blinking... I was caught totally off guard and it
resulted in one of my worst 60 foot times of the afternoon.

The car in the other lane, apparently was having problems and
his problems became mine... Sure, it's ONLY Test 'n' Tune but,
once you're staged,

DON'T EVER TAKE YOUR EYE OFF THE TREE!

Once back home and looking over the time slips from today's
session and this past years, I was quite satisfied... here is a
look at the BEST of 2008:

ReportCard640Bestof08.jpg

FINally, below are 2008's Top 5 BEST Reaction Times, 60 Foot
Times and 1/4 mile times along with the tracks where they
were recorded. Very interesting that my BEST 60 Foot times
came AFTER that piston was replaced... whatever THAT means!

Hope you've enjoyed hearing of my exploits this past year and
hope next year brings even better things but, for now I leave
you with,

Season's Greetings To All, And To All A Good Night!

Awesome read!!

shouldn't your perfect RT be 0.500?

Not really... the perfect RT is .000 but, because Capitol Raceway
INCLUDES the .500 in the RT on their time slips, and the other three
(Maryland International Raceway, Cecil County Dragway, Mason-Dixon Raceway)
DO NOT, I keep things consistent, by subtracting the .500 from the Capitol
Raceway time slips.... Does that make any sense? (HaHaHa!)

In other words, if I were to cut a perfect light at Capitol, my time slip would
read, RT = .500, while at the other three tracks, the same perfect light would
show up as, .000 (.500 being subtracted)
