TERCEL1: It could've been a lot worst!

My new shift at VOA (Voice Of America) is not very conducive for
weekend activities as my only days off are Mondays & Tuesdays
so to make my first trip to the track (almost a month into the
new, 2010 season) I had to dip into my leave time...take "leave
time"

The 2009 drag race season for TERCEL1 ended on a sort of sour
note as the trans which came with the 4EFTE engine which
powers TERCEL1 was reunited with the engine with less than
stellar results as you can see by last year's final report card:

Today started off a bit slowly and while the transmission
wasn't as contrary as last year's finale, it still left a bit to be
desired... But THAT turned out to be the least of my
problems...

After returning to the pit area following Run#007, I popped
the hood and to my HORROR saw an all to familiar sight...
OIL EVERYWHERE!!!

Upon closer examination, I discovered it wasn't oil after all...
it was coolant, instead. My overflow reservoir was running
over and spilling all over the passenger side of the engine
bay... I emptied it and resumed running...

Following each run I'd pop the hood and check for a coolant
discharge but, find none, I continued making passes...
Apparently it took 3 passes to fill the coolant overflow tank
and it was at that point that I figured my head gasket had
seen better days...

I hope I didn't damage TERCEL1's engine by driving it
home but, I monitored the temperature gauge very carefully
(it never climbed above 1/2 way) and filled the radiator several
times on the ride home...

TERCEL1 ran seemingly well unless I had to stop for a red light
at which point it's idle was a bit on the rough side and a cloud
of white smoke could be seen in my rearview mirror on take
off but, once up to speed... it ran fine...?

Here's a few photos from today's outting...
