yeah BOI........... check out the pic's and feature's of the new G phone

http://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/features.html

You have put up a link to the new Iphone. Do you have a link for this G phone you speak of? Sounds interesting. I've never heard of it before.

no offence intended mate but Im not sure how you have come to that conclusion. I am no apple fan but lets face it EVERY handset manufacturer out there has being attempting to make a handset that comes close to the iphone ever since it was launched.

I have a HTC android handset here and yes it is a real alternative to an iPhone but the iPhone has been around for a few years now and it has taken this long for something to come out which has a similar quality interface, an application store and a good web browser. Now that other manufacturers such as HTC have gotten their act together Apple is raising the bar again... hopefully it will not take its competitors years to release a competing product. I posted about the HTC Evo which is coming out on Sprint later this month which appears to be a feature heavy handset but I will wait until I have it in my hand before commenting on it.

The real thing to watch out for is windows mobile 7.... that will really shake up the market when it is released.

Apple are marketing geniuses. The could sell a brick as gold. Granted it looks good but Apple have always been very good at design so thats no surprise.

Nothing is new, in fact theyre way behind. I was using video calling 6 years ago on an HTC made MDA handset with yes, both rear and front facing cameras.

The screen tech is a technique pioneered by RIM with their Blackberries.

Multitasking! Come on! I was doing that on my first windows handset years ago!

5mp camera with flash? Hardly ground breaking.

Very good marketing, the ad sells the product well. But they are still playing catchup with the tech leaders. Again, anyone not into tech will think its all a revolution. Where's the latest stuff like HDMI external links (surprising as Apple are so media focused), where's the 8mp + camera? Wheres face tracking? Wheres the networkability? Wheres the ability to control external peripherals? and so on and so on? These are all features which have either been available or are now available on Windows, Blackberry or Android platforms. (more so on Windows though)

Once again they are playing to the masses who dont want to do any research so just look to Apple for what is 'apparently' the latest thing.

I completely agree with you on the HTC Evo though. That looks like a mighty impressive phone. Just a shame it's not being released over here.

What the Iphone 4G offers has been done on numerous handset before. My old Nokia N95 could do everything the iphone can do except from the touch screen.

Apple really are behind the times when it comes to tech. Their only thing I can praise them for is the useability and sleekness.

I own a 3GS so I am not one of these die-hard apple haters.

yeah i use a 3gs too, and i love it, not because it can walk my dog and cook my dinner, but because its just a piece of piss to use, and is handy for everyday life

That would be a pretty awesome reason to love your phone in all fairness. I give HTC 2 years before a phone that can walk your dog and cook your dinner is released.

I like my 3GS too. As a gadget and something to keep you entertained it is pretty good. As a phone though, it is crap. The ariel is crap. There is always a delay before a phonecall is made. I am forever not recieving txts till about an hour or 2 after they were sent. It only rings when it feels like it, even on loud it will sometimes just vibrate. I have had the phone replaced twice and my simcard replaced and no joy. It really is a terrible phone.

My 3GS plays flash files now! (yxflash player) I think it's called used in conjunction with Imobilecinema! :)

3GS and 3G are also getting the 4 OS which changes a crap loads of features which includes multi tasking, folders for apps etc etc although not all features are available on the 3G

all outlined here

I have that same Issue with signal every now and then which sucks! Thankfully the 4G ariel has been upgraded, seem's they knew where the problem lied!

Meh I'm not totally sure, I think it may be a jailbreak thing mate :( they was meant to team up with adobe to sort a flash player out and apple kept holding out or something which sucks!

I'm hoping with the latest iphone coming out, that the older ones including 3g/s will drop in price and i'll get one of those instead.

Yehh tht flash n imobcinema(only works on certain pages tho) it has to b jailbroken... n yeahh a lot of other phones can do more bt the touchscreens r no wher as good to use n the N95 had sum rite firmware issues not forgettin its the size of a house brick... nothing is as good as a jailbroken iPhone for techy ppl mabe apart from android when that gets fully up n running bt its still nt as sleek to use, wish they wud jus get flash done properly tho with adobe as it really dus suck on tht front n tbf a 5mp camera may nt b revolutionary bt do u really need anything higher on a phone? Plus ppl who do take shed loadsa snaps will already hav a gd digital camera... In no way am i an apple fan as non of it needs to be as expensive as it is bt the iPhone has so much potential that apple cannot b bothered to unlock which is y its technologically a v basic phone but via jailbraking it becomes well ahead of anything else

I had to decipher most of your post but I think I got the jist of it. However, the reason why apple won't unlock the phone isn't because they merely cannot be bothered.

As for jailbreaking, in what ways does it make it more technically advanced than all the other phones out there?

If you want to see what the Iphone 4 Is capable of watch the apple video (conference one) it really is a lot better than I thought at first!

Video calling is done Via wi-fi doesnt need any set up and can be used with front or rear camera, the 5mp camera also records 720p HD videos at 30fps.

Multi-tasking, nice and smooth, new folders option, Imovie maker (edit HD videos and post online) Ibooks for use with PDF and ebooks.

really is a great little phone, video is here.

This is what I really disagree with. As a gadget, yes, it is really good, but as a phone it is awful. Hopefully the 4G will be better than the 3GS but we will just have to wait and see,

In regards to that I agree every now and then I will have full signal and won't be able to send, recieve txts or make calls and it seems a lot of people have this problem due to the poor ariel although the new iPhone has the ariel going round the whole outside so is meant to be much better, as said I'll wait and see won't be long before someone brings one to a conference :p

I agree their marketing is a huge factor however I am looking at the device from a technical point of view. The video calling you mentioned is a prime example. I was one of the first to get my hands on the beta nokia handsets and trial the Vodafone 3G switched video calling features when they had just been developed. The initial trials went well but lets face it the whole video calling thing was a flop as the back haul from node B's to the core was not robust enough making the service sketchy and unreliable - most handset manufacturers walked away from video calling, it is good to see Apple has revisited it and might drag it back from the grave as I think with the right marketing it will be a big hit.

You say nothing is new... I dont agree. In previous roles I have had the task of testing handsets and received a sample of pretty much every new device to come from the big device manufacturers. The build quality alone of the iPhone is groundbreaking. NO device I have ever held in my hand has felt as well designed and durable save a few rugged handsets which although they feel robust they are clunky and typically pretty basic. The build quality is new.

Operating system - I am disappointed to see that the new iPhone will have multitasking. One of the things I like about my iPhone is that once I am finished with an application it closes and the performance of my iPhone remains sharp. Flick over to a windows mobile handset, I have a HTC win mobile 6.1 device here beside me. Yes it multitasks and if you forget to go and close applications the device grinds to a halt similarly nokia have been hit hard with their symbian based e-series which has taken a bashing since the iphone hit the shops. Open a few browser windows and suddenly things starts crashing or taking an age to open. It is very obvious to me that Apple have spent a lot of time and money on designing an operating system which works for the majority of users, remember one phone will never suit every person.

HDMI connectivity, 8mp camera etc etc etc all of which add to the bulk and power hungryness of a handset. You have fallen in to the camp of why cant my phone do everything. I want a phone that works. I dont need a phone that has an 8MP camera, anyone that knows about cameras will tell you that megapixel values are quoted to sell cameras and have very little bearing on the quality of photos, a good lens is what takes photos. That said however I wouldnt hold my breath for decent pictures from any phone, if I want nice pictures I will bring my camera, if I want to take a quick snap I will use my phone. As for the screen tech being from RIM... have you ever used a blackberry with a touchscreen? they are rubbish compared to an iPhone so apple did more than just marketing they actual did a better hardware implementation.

Ultimately I cant see myself running out to buy one of these new iPhones as the iPhone 3G I have works fine for what I need it for. As I write this I am surrounded by handsets and just took delivery of a new HTC android handset yesterday with a beta version of the latest version of android OS which I must say is very nice indeed but after playing with it for a couple of hours yesterday I found myself going back to my iPhone....

Generally I dont like Apple products, they are too flowery and handholding for my liking which is why I would never consider a MAC. My attitude was the same toward the iPhone and I never wanted one but my company began developing for them so I needed one. Since getting one and using it I honestly am a convert (hard to admit). There is no other phone I have used that will let me use it as a business tool, email, VPN, great browser etc and then I can plug a headphone jack in the top and connect it to an amp and play drums with my brother on his guitar, then get on a plane and listen to podcasts which automatically update when there is a new episode, jump on to TGTT and use tapatalk, listen to all my fav radio stations from anywhere in the world. The design of the handset coupled with the massive success of the app store and its integration with itunes is groundbreaking, it pains me to admit Apple got it right but they did.

I would feel a bit sorry for those who ran out and bought the 3GS when it was launched as I really dont see a major difference between it and the 3G but this 4 device looks to have some features that could make it more attractive for people with a couple of year old 3G go out and upgrade.

The way I see it is that regardless of if you like the iPhone or not it has changed peoples perception of what a phone should be, people now expect more. Microsoft handsets for example look prehistoric and are very buggy compared to the iPhone and I bet windows mobile 7 will not be the crap upgrade to the windows mobile family that we have seen in the past. The iPhone is forcing handset manufacturers and operating system developers to raise the bar, android was born out of this competition and so was the android application market - its a good thing.
