LOL,there is plenty of people who can do it,there not that special, the rest just don't focus on sony.

I don't think they had hand in it though, more than likely a few of the more knowledgeable members from NGU using the new CFM.

And no,i don't hack ps3's,or anything for that matter,it just pays to keep up to date on certain things

I dont think any programming group has admitted to the hack, one of the reasons why Sony is still invetigating the matter. It must have been a serious breach for them to take the network down for so long.

If you stored any card details on your PSN network I would be aware. You have to think just how many card details there are in the network, not just the UK but globally.

Personal details I would not worry about as people can obtain that data not just from the PSN network :)

The chances of your card details being used are very slim so I doubt its anything to worry about.

Sony are in the shit though thats for sure, depending on the security breach it could take them a lot of time to sort the coding out and implement new security measures. I feel sorry for the poor Sony coder's, they must have a diet of Red Bull and pizza at the moment :)

Still, the PSN is a free network so you can't moan to much and like anythiung of this nature your always in danger of something like this on other online systems, some don't even get taken offline like Sony has the PSN.

Anyway, as for who did it?

Bill gates has been a bit quiet recently don't you think? His Xbox Live! susb must be going through the roof right now! Good hack by him if he did it :)

Well if your credit card details are on there, its a slim chance yours might get taken, 1/70 million chance.
Sony have been clearly fucked over, simple as that really.
I've read that apparently they are changing the whole PSN scheme which is why it's taking so long, they are now saying about another week till its back up.

Sony said the credit card info was stored on a seperate encrypted server, the personal info wasn't. I'd believe that,it'd be very hard to get by 256bit encryption, nigh impossible actually but it can be done.

And I heard they're basically starting from scratch again,IGN reported may 3rd as the restart date but they usally mess up dates.
I reckon a week or two until its fully back up.

I'm in shock at some posts here :-/

wouldnt happen on xbl, they use the same encryption as the militiary iirc lol. hence you pay a buck or two, no doubt anti block programmers ddos attack programmers paid for that 40 quid, ohhh and to get that 12 muted for saying fuck

There is, no value in saying 'military grade' there is considerably more to keeping data safe than using 'military grade' encryption... Also, the cost of using encryption is not what the £40 per year covers...

"anonymous" hacked the network and brought it to a stop. They were doing it to get at sony for taking George Hotz to court for hacking the ps3, meaning downloading games and playing them for free etc. They claimed they were not hacking the system against the consumer but against Sony, so they wern't taking it as a chance to get peoples details etc, although what they say and do we all know is two different things seeing as we don't know these people.

They've officially stated they have had nothing to do with it.

i thought anonymous gave a statement yesterday or they day before stating that they had nothing to do with the hack :p they also finished this statement with''for once'':p

Completely true.

They would say that, and lets face it, they are the only ones that can hack it ;) or atleast know how to.

This is just not true.

There is waaaayyy more to it than breaking '256bit encryption'.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2011/apr/29/playstation-network-hackers-credit-cards

Hackers claim to have 2.2million peoples credit card details...

Oh and I got an email about it yesterday, (given data was stolen on the 17th April...) it took Sony 11 days to tell me :-/

anonymous have claimed for this there was a full vid in my post of them explaining why they did it and it has been quickly removed from youtube, if it was fake then why remove it

as for the lateness it was stated they had to bring in experts to see what exactly happened so i wouldnt say they knew all this data was taken until they would have got the info from them, im sure it was delayed but they would want to be 100% before letting people know other wise it wouldnt be good for business

i cant see xbox having any sort of protection worthy of being impenetrable it will never be so for the people saying it please stop cause you dont know what your talking about, if these people wanted to get in then they will regardless of what protection they are using

the lad for jailbreaking the playstation was brought to court and these lads didnt like it, they have apologized to the gamers as they didnt want it to have been taken down they said it was sony and sony alone that was targeted and this interruption was was not planned. they also said this would not happen again for the simple fact that it effected the consumer and they will find other ways to get back at sony
