Its basically an import Lexus is200 but is called a toyota altezza, so insurence will be more i would of thought as its an import.

They come with a 2 litre n/a engine, a beams engine, tuned by yamaha and is supposed to have 210 hp, over the 150hp from the lexus is although i have been told that they are no where near 210hp

Im sure have seen a few throttle bodied and some turbo'd, the turbo ones make some decent power.

I quite like them and they arent too expensive, can get a decent one for around 4k, would choose one over the is200

Would love to get a tomz 1 lol. So they have a 4 pot as aposed to the 6 pot in the lexus is200. But the altezza runs more power. Yer i defenetly wouldnt mind 1 for a bit more comfort just wanted to no if thers the potential to play with it lol as dont think i would leave standard.

though with the toms it has a toms ecu so it cant be adjusted that way unless you replace it or get a piggyback. but im sure you could whack a larger turbo on, mani, injectors etc, jus the same as a starlet but prob alot more expensive because they would be harder to come by id imagine.

I own a stock IS200 SE and it was best move I did from the honda as it is so much more comfortable and luxurious. I admitt they are very sluggish and if you want the comfort and bit more power then defently go for the tezza! There are a few on ebay and pistonheads. You can get plenty of parts from

maybe worth looking on http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showforum=124 for advice

Altezza's? We owned quite a few of them importing the cars from Japan, I would definately buy one of these over an IS200 but the Altezza is the same as an IS200.... Over Rated!

They are good enough to go but you have to give them good auld welly and keep her in high revs for the power, and yes 210bhp. they are good fun and easy to handle especially when they have the 1.5 diff as our last 99 one did.

You can play about alot with them the engine is a 3SGE as with a Celica is a 3SGTE same with a 4EFE Starlet and a 4EFTE Turbo one.

A few tips with them

Change the clutch as the standard clutch doesnt like too much horsing about and will burn out of it.

Do NOT just lower it on lowering springs as they get very saggy and will hit the road quite alot on a bumpy stretch

Also if you want it for economy purposes the Yamaha tuned red top engine (black rocker cover with red writing) uses a twin VVTi system which enables it to change from 16v to 20v and then 24v. I suggest for economy runs try to keep it in and around the 20v range as they are very lumpish in the lower revs and you will end up putting the engine under load devouring your petrol. Also if you keep it in the 24v range it will assinate your tank of petrol.

If its wet and you are pulling out of a junction TURN OFF THE TRACTION, not to do any acting but the traction is way over sensitive in these cars and you will find that it will kick in leaving you crawling from the juction

I would also suggest a S/S cat back and an induction kit, these two put together on these cars and they sound amazing in the higher revs.

Cant realli think of anything else... If i can ill give ya a new reply
