hey dudes im after a new motor soon and its either a vr ltd jap import mx5 or another starlet. what ya reckonings? if i got the mx5 id wna turbo it later on but is it more expensive to turbo the mx5 or the td04 starlet?

ive got my corolla for everyday this would purely be a toy. i was pretty sold on the vr ltd mx5 after driving one but my love affair with starlets is proving hard to break.

whats your opinions

goldenvtr would prob be the best person to ask. Think he owns both a TD04 Starlet and a turbo MX5. Lol.

try the mx5 as you have done the td04 starlet already.
RWD hatchback and turbo sounds like a good laugh. apparently they can handler a nice bit of boost with stock internals too.

My starlet has 5e with td05 18g near 350bhp and I still preference my mx5 with only 269bhp. Its bags more fun on the road. Track use I obviously preference the gt due to brutal power. Deffo get the mx5 if your after a base car to mod. Mine is a 1.8 tdo5h 16g at 14psi makes 269bhp & 136 ibft... it lasted 18 month with that power on stock bottom end now I'm forging and bringing it up to my starlets power region.

how did you get such a low torque figure????? that only a touch above stock!?!?

Yea it was a typo lol! 236ibf @5400rpm 269bhp @ 6100rpm. I have the graphs on the forum somrehere

The tdo5 16g is very well suited to the bpze engine. I made my own manifold and downpipe and 3" exhaust for less than 200 quid.

Cost me about 600 quid in total to turbk it. But i had alot of spares kying about. Like turbos intercooler pipes and emanage ultimate llol
