Turbo Whining

Hi guys,

Today i noticed that when boost kicks in the turbo starts whining, quite loudly. I've been told my turbo's knackered. Now my problems is, next saturday I'm participating in a Run what you bring at hal far. Will this decrease the car's power? And most importantly, apart from the turbo itself, will it damage any other part of the car if i still participate?

my ct9 rins at .8 bar, and whines on the motoway or when its working its hardest nick at TD advised this is what they do due the small size off them if that helps dude

if its still boosting it will be ok,keep check off your oil levels

It's boosting to 0.9 Bar fine. No white smoke, just whining as it starts boosting. Cheers for the input btw!

turbo whine: to race or not?

mine whines too, at anything above nought point 4 bar. i quite like the whine - sounds like a jet. sometimes it's more of a whirring sound. been like this since i got and overhauled the car. no boost loss. no oil leaks. no problem. like fishman says, it must just be the design of the kit. unless of course your turbo whine can wake up a sleeping giant 2 miles underground

now, to answer your question of whether you can still run it in your race, i'd say you can. if though, something is really wrong, the worst case scenario is you will have no power, you will burn/loose loads of oil and if your luck is really low, your turbo shaft will break out of its bearing and tear through your hood.. kidding on that last part mate. knock on wood..
