Tyre Sizes - What to go for...

OK, I need to get some new tyres soon, so I'm after some info.

I've currently got 16" Rota's shod in 195/45/16 Yoko A539's all round. I'm doing a trackday on Saturday so I'm likely to kill the front pair, but I could do with changing all of them as the rears are nearing limit.

I went to Celtic Tyre's earlier today and got some prices. I can get the same 195/45/16 A539's for £60 per tyre fitted. They also have a pair of 205/40/16's, which are £66 each fitted and are also Yoko.

Now, the Yoko's I have now have a slight stretch on the Rota's, so I'm assuming the rim is 7.5 inches and the tyres are 7. Will the 205's fit without much scrubbing? I do get scuffing now which I think is down to a bolt holding the arch liner in (Which is now removed). Has anyone had any experience with 205 section tyres on 16" rims before? Will they fit on the rear if I get scrubbing up front?

Ta :)

for tracking, you prolly can try the yokohama advan neova ad07's 205/40/R16 up front and potenza re01 205/40/16 in the rear.

We run 205/50 on a 15inch rim, 7.5J width. As mentioned for a track day you would be better with some semi's like the a048r or Toyo 888 if it's not 100% dry..

Thanks for the input peeps. I shan't be going for semi-slicks, the car is a daily drive and living in Wales, the roads are always wet and covered in sheep shit

.

I'll go for the 205's then if they fit without any problems. I'll only go for a pair (That's all they've got) so if they scrub on the front I'll put them on the rears.

very cool

cant wait to get my 205's on...... is the traction noticeably improved?

She felt a bit more skatey going into a roundabout, but she was scuffing the arches before there was any loss of grip. I'll have to watch out though, lift-off oversteer could be fruity with the A539's still on the rear :homer:

I would say your rims are 7" . I have 16*7" rims fitted with 205/50/16, and they are just straight.
7.5" are meant for 215 I beleive

Yeh, speaking with someone else tonight they said the same.

I'm not impressed though, one of the tyres had no air in it earlier. Whether it's a slow puncture or gash fitting I don't know, but I'll be going back to Celtic to get them to sort it out! :flame:
