vacume hose?

hi, was lookin round engine bay today (as u do) at the back of the engine bay under the strut brace, there is a hose going from the inlet mani to a sensor or somthing, its wrapped with a plastic spiral and mine has a split in it (will replace obv) but just wonderd what this did??

thats the map sensor mate, lets the ecu know how much fuel to inject

its not the map sensor, its to the right of that
